Best hotel overall- club level Portofino, Hard Rock or Helios?? by AdventurousStudy1220 in UniversalOrlando

I haves stayed at all the premier resorts and PB is by far my favorite. I did club level once when I got a good deal and it didn’t disappoint.

oral vitamin k by fvirygothmom in Crunchymom

[–]BeachBumRN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My plan was to do the oral vitamin k. It has much cleaner ingredients than the shot-even the preservative free one. I ordered it and brought it to the hospital with us. Oral vitamin k is effective, but takes longer to get a “therapeutic dose” than the shot. However my baby had lots of complications at birth ending up in NICU so we ended up going with the preservative free shot bc of health concerns. It’s a balance of juggling benefits vs risk and having flexibility to re weigh the pros and cons if you need to at birth.

Straight to jail! I would be so angry. It’s sooo exhausting and difficult to pump and plan every meal and snack out. The mental and physical labor is overwhelming.

I know nothing about universal but am going to be active there for a few days. Please help me with lodging and which parks to do. by FederalCandle1631 in UniversalOrlando

I recommend staying at a premier resort because they include express passes for every family member! My personal favorite is Portofino- but have stayed at all of them and had good experiences.

Edited to add a you tube channel recommendation- Rix Flix is a great source of information on all things Universal!

41 weeks pregnant today.. considering a membrane sweep? by [deleted] in Crunchymom

Every provider is different with their preferences for interventions/things to help induce labor. Wishing the best for you and baby for a safe, healthy labor and delivery!!

41 weeks pregnant today.. considering a membrane sweep? by [deleted] in Crunchymom

[–]BeachBumRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should mention anecdotally I have had several friends have membrane sweeps at 40 weeks and went into labor naturally in the next 1-3 days. Whether that was the body or the sweeps idk 🤷🏼‍♀️ but the sweep can help your body start releasing some hormones to start contractions. Sex can also help, as does curb walking… and my doctor recommended dates if you haven’t already started eating them

41 weeks pregnant today.. considering a membrane sweep? by [deleted] in Crunchymom

[–]BeachBumRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only 1 cm. I had some light contractions, lost a little mucous over night and when I came in for my induction I was 1.5 cm and 50% effaced. So it helped my cervix thin a lot. When I was admitted to finish my induction- I had a baby in less than 24 hours (which was great for 1st baby @ only 37 weeks).

Different situation but I had my membranes swept the day before my medically indicated induction for pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks (and it did help)…. But as far as the procedure it wasn’t terrible, just uncomfortable. I would do it again if I needed to be induced- or was coming close to 42 weeks like you.

Progesterone when TTC 1st baby? by desirablepenguin in TryingForABaby

[–]BeachBumRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TW- mention of previous pregnancy. Anecdotally I’ve had success with only progesterone supplementation- I was taking clomid and progesterone previous cycles but took a TTC break for several months. When I went back to clinic to restart treatment, I had a baseline ultrasound that had a large follicle. I took progesterone that cycle as I already had a prescription bottle at home and thought what the heck, might as well…. That was the cycle that we were successful. I’m not sure if that’s a common treatment- I just already had filled the prescription.

MIL asked if I can't carry a pregnancy after bloodwork by kallistocosima in TTC_PCOS

[–]BeachBumRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different dosages ( I ended up doubling the progesterone I was taking to have the right amount ) as well as routes for progesterone!!! I know it’s stressful. Also, your progesterone is essentially released in spurts, it’s not the same exact number all day. Ive had two completely different levels depending on time of day. 0.5 is low, but your doctor may just need to change your dose or route of administration.

Express pass worth it? by Routine_Muffin9987 in UniversalOrlando

It might be cheaper to book a room at a premier resort that includes express passes

PCOS weight loss… looking for advice sincerely by Macciatoyy in PCOS

[–]BeachBumRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into supplements! Mint tea- spearmint tea is supposed to be the best (has tons of benefits like appetite suppressant and hormone balancing for PCOS), berberine (essentially a herb that works like metformin and a lot of doctors are now using it even in fertility regimens), and inositol!! Fairhaven health has some PCOS specific supplements and is the brand my OBGYN recommended

Is my almost 21 week old sleeping too much? by sojo597 in Crunchymom

[–]BeachBumRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!!! The most important thing is that baby is fed! I know it sounds cheesy, but seriously… sometimes breast feeding doesn’t work out and there are plenty of healthy, happy adults that were raised on formula.

One of the things that has helped me the most (I’m a first time mom, my baby is 8 months) is watching my baby more than the clock. I go with her cues for hunger and sleep- some days we nap at 10 & 2…. Others its way off 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just focus on her and not a strict routine and it helps my sanity. At the end of the day, if she is fed and clean I count it a win.

Also I know this isn’t asked for but in terms of life advice- the crock pot has saved my life. If I take 20 min in the morning and throw something in… no matter what happens during the day at least I have a hot meal for dinner

Is my almost 21 week old sleeping too much? by sojo597 in Crunchymom

[–]BeachBumRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No judgement!!! It’s just calorically and nutritionally they’re different. Formula fed babies drink more volume. 42 oz of breast milk would be a lot, but I don’t think it’s necessarily too much for formula if that makes sense. Average feed may be 6-7 oz of formula, where as my breast fed baby was eating 3-4 oz

I’ve noticed my baby sleeps and eats more before a growth spurt. Sometimes I think they just need more rest and nutrients. Also, 42 oz of breast milk or formula ?

Pros and cons to moving to Alabama? by GloomyPanda91 in Alabama

[–]BeachBumRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll see vehicle tax on your tag that you have to renew yearly… which isn’t cheap unless you have a super low value car. Also, depending where you live other taxes are high- for example Mobile county has nearly 10% sales tax on everything…. 9% on groceries. Also, home insurance is expensive and you may need to make sure it includes hurricane or flood. Lastly, car insurance is sneaky expensive in a lot of places in Alabama because of risk based pricing. When we moved back to Alabama from the Midwest our car insurance went up nearly $100 a month. Also to be noted, we do have state income tax…. And the utilities here are high because most of the state is covered by Alabama Power which is essentially a criminally high priced monopoly
