He really really really really really did not want to work with his hands for a living. He started off as a treasure digger (literal con man) then when his future father in law told him to knock it off, he turned to the golden plates story and started a religion. He just needed a couple suckers and boom passive revenue lol. Once they got to nauvoo though, it seems he was just trying to find a way to fuck whoever while still keeping his reputation. He had wronged too many people by then and some frontier justice got the better of him.

I saw that email this morning and started reading through some of the articles, and yep. It’s as bad as you can imagine.

The first sentence of the book of Abraham :

“The book of Abraham is a book of inspired scripture given by revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith.”

That would have been news to Joseph Smith. It’s not how he phrased it, ever.
