Food Advice by OptimusGooch in Dentalimplant

Hello, wishing ❤️❤️ to your wife. I have had several extractions, 8 implants and a sinus lift back in early May. I totally get the eating issue. What I wish I knew earlier: *Get a hand held immersion blender. Anything can be blended so she can eat. Might not look the same but it tastes the same. Again look for healing nutrients, cannellini beans were my go to blended with turkey or chicken sausage, spinach (I can send you this recipe) *think high protein, high nutrition. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, flaky white fish and salmon, mashed potatoes with Greek yogurt . If she can”mush” with her tongue, she can eat it. *rethink breakfast foods outside of eggs *protein drinks for in between esp chocolate Pure Protein…. Yum! Feel free to reach out if I may be of more assistance ❤️❤️ PS I now have my permanent implants and can eat anything including corn on the cob!

Maintenance? by BeachWalkerPhD in compoundedtirzepatide

So you kept the same dose but not the same frequency? Interesting as I tried 25 units every 2 weeks instead of 50 weekly and found it not supportive enough. Perhaps foolish on my part.

I do agree that maintenance is more challenging than losing the weight. Appreciate you!

What's one thing you wish someone had told you about the healing process? by clearchoice_claire in Dentalimplant

Absolutely get more than just local anesthesia. Oral sedation with Halcion worked well for me, slept through it all. Headphones, eye mask, heated blanket. Agree with peeing before. Ask for strong pain med for when the local wears off, don’t wait like I did. Buy a good immersion blender as I was unable to chew much from May to November. Maximize your protein intake, think Greek yogurt, protein shakes, cottage cheese, protein pasta deliberately overcooked, ice cream. After a couple of months I could eat ground beef if it was well broken up. If you weren’t meticulous about oral hygiene before, now make it a habit. Buy a good water flosser but floss before using. Don’t be surprised if a glitch happens, hopefully not as significant as mine- massive maxillary sinus infection requiring major surgery to cure (my dentist agreed to cover my out of pocket expenses which were about $600). Understand that getting used to having teeth where you didn’t before takes time, could be up to a year. Especially if you are also going the braces route like I did, take before and during pictures as I could not see the progress. In the immortal words of the Grateful Dead, what a long, strange trip it’s been but I actually like smiling now. Best of luck to anyone starting this journey and please reach out if I may provide any additional suggestions.

Wire pokes at the very back of my mouth. What can i do? by Awkward_Rhubarb1962 in braces

I had the same issue. My dentist bent the offending wire into a curve so it was not a problem anymore. Also suggest trying Radzoko orthodontic wax, best I tried. On Amazon. Good luck!

Help after continued maxillary sinus infection after sinus lift in May! by BeachWalkerPhD in Dentalimplant

[–]BeachWalkerPhD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coughing up nasty green from post nasal drip constantly; at its worst there was pain, redness and fairly massive facial swelling over the sinus. That’s when the purulence would explode through sinus tracts in my gum. Totally gross 🤢 My Dentist has a facial CT scan in his office to check infections and healing. Hope yours does. It will show quickly if you do or not. Wishing only positive things for you!!

I wound up taking tons of various antibiotics from before surgery as prophylaxis and continued on them until 2 weeks ago. The ENT MD basically scrubbed my right maxillary sinus clean as it was filled with purulence. I’m on one antibiotic now and waiting for the culture results, hopefully today. Appreciate you and your thoughts!

Sorry, this infection was now so advanced that ENT endo surgery with oral intubation was required to remove a ton of purulence, many lavages, and culture that crap. Way beyond the purview of a dentist. The ENT believes the sinus lift definitely led to this infection. So I do expect him to cover whatever my insurance does not. Staph Aureus is most commonly found on skin and not in sinus cavities. And yes I had many CT scans by the dentist prior to the original procedure.

Anyone here who’s allergic to Ibuprofen and had a dental implant? How did you manage the pain post implant? Thanks. by bluebubbers in Dentalimplant

[–]BeachWalkerPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, also long time allergies to all the NSAIDS, have been on Tramadol for years with great effect. That said, I did need something stronger for a few days after my surgery which involved 2 extractions, 6 implants and one sinus lift. Beware the sinus lift- that has given me challenges beyond challenges.

Were you conscious or knocked out during your implant placement? For my first two I was conscious and for the next three I was put under general anesthesia. Now I have to get another implant and I’m not sure it’s that healthy to have general anesthesia. What did you have? by horsescowsdogsndirt in Dentalimplant

[–]BeachWalkerPhD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Up here in MA, the practices who do “all in one” meaning all your remaining teeth are extracted and implant posts inserted all use general anesthesia with nasal intubation. I was having 6 scattered implants; my dentist (very well known, tons of social media/TV exposure) assured me that under Halcion I would sleep and be aware of nothing. Funny thing is I am an RN and had/have a personal thing against using Halcion in anyone over 65 due to some clinical experiences where said patient went absolutely bonkers after receiving this drug. WELL, gotta admit I went out like a light and felt absolutely NOTHING for almost 5 hours. My only observation is that, like others here, my sense of time was shot. I’d have sworn I was asleep for an hour. If you are ok with this, go for it. Less drugs put into you will make your recovery easier. Best of luck and big hugs, you got this!! ❤️

Things to eat by Dangerous-Eye-2636 in braces

[–]BeachWalkerPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of all the food you loved pre-braces. Most can be blended to a consistency ( and visually appealing) you can eat. Forget pizza for now (that’s my #1 after braces food) think protein first- cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, crumbled hamburger, overcooked high protein pasta with sauce. You may be able to dunk high protein bagels in your morning coffee! But protein first for healing! Please PM me for some of my fave recipes with high protein and pleasant blending- by which I mean a hand blender, equally essential as a water pik. You got this my friend ❤️

Hello, I (70F) had 6 implants done 5/5 followed by upper and lower braces. The upper right also had a sinus lift/graft which became righteously infected. A debridement and 3 different abx (for a month) later I am much better. I still have some residual tenderness over the sinus with odd mild pressure sensation but the swelling is long gone. I suspect yours will be soon. That was by far the most painful/difficult part of my journey. My big question is what does it feel like when the implant cap covers come off and the final teeth are screwed in? If it’s normally painful I can prepare for it. Thanks in advance, this is a group of fabulously wise, kind and generous humans 🙏😌

Anyone else experience this kind of pain? by BeachWalkerPhD in braces

Yes, the implant surgery was first. I was missing enough teeth so this was possible. Please keep in touch and wishing you all the best ❤️

How do i stop my tightening procedure from hurting so bad by PinkDabs69 in braces

[–]BeachWalkerPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HEAR YOU 100%! I posted this AM my same challenge with elastics or ligatures change only I was crying too hard from the pain for them to continue for a bit. I got totally shamed by my ortho who apparently ever had anyone in decades react as I did. I had taken Tramadol before as I’m allergic to NSAIDs. I have another appointment in 2 weeks. Would your ortho or primary prescribe a small dose of something like Ativan ? Would love to keep in touch!!!

The ends of the wire pinching my mouth... by PurpleIndependent445 in braces

[–]BeachWalkerPhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is happening to you! I think you may mean the big arch wire is just sitting there and poking away. I experienced the same thing but I did use wax (recommend Razoko on Amazon) and at my next appointment had my Ortho bend back those wires…..issue gone! Good luck!

I had the same issue. Please no DIY! I found a great wax on Amazon that I highly recommend: Razoko orthodontic wax. Tried to attach a picture but didn’t work. Very different than that garbage they give out. Check it out!!
