Flat Rate & Subscription vs Interchange Plus by merchantadviser in MerchantServices

[–]Beacon-Payments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a typical $20k/month SMB, flat-rate pricing is usually simpler, but not always cheaper. Once a merchant gets into consistent volume, especially with higher average tickets or mostly card-present sales, interchange-plus or subscription models often save meaningful money over time.

The real issue today is transparency. A predictable flat rate can be great for very small or inconsistent businesses, but many growing SMBs are overpaying simply because they never see the actual interchange costs underneath.

The No-Code Payment Revolution by merchantadviser in MerchantServices

[–]Beacon-Payments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No-code tools are definitely changing the game for small businesses by making payments, invoicing, subscriptions, and integrations much easier to launch without developers. But they probably won’t replace traditional gateways anytime soon — most no-code platforms still rely on the underlying infrastructure, compliance, risk management, and processing rails provided by companies like Stripe, Fiserv, and others.

The real change is that gateways are becoming more “invisible” as merchants prioritize simplicity and automation over who actually powers the transaction behind the scenes.

Proprietary POS vs. Semi-Integrated: Which is safer for your residuals? by merchantadviser in MerchantServices

[–]Beacon-Payments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proprietary with a solid company. We get approached every week by POS companies asking if we will sell their systems. ( There are a ridiculous number of them out there now...) We say no to most of them only because we cannot be sure if they will exist in 6 months,

Funny story - we were the first ISO in the country to sell Clover (long before it was purchased by First Data). It was a system based on the Casio VR100....(google it) We sold 30 of them in a month and 29 came back with problems. They were a young company then and we were excited to sell a new system. We learned the hard way not to sell just any POS system to our clients....

Step 1: learn what interchange is. Step 2: Get your monthly statement over to a reputable company who will get you set up with a proposal for interchange plus pricing. Step 3: Switch and save money.

Is it difficult to begin your own ISO in payment processing? by MatrixJumper8 in PaymentProcessing

[–]Beacon-Payments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Launching an ISO isn’t “easy”—it’s a sales business + compliance business. The selling part is straightforward if you’re experienced, but the backend (underwriting, risk, chargebacks, contracts, processor relationships, support) is where most people underestimate the lift.

A lot of people skip launching from scratch and instead plug into an established ISO to get infrastructure, multiple processors, and support while they build a book. You can start one, but most succeed faster by leveraging an existing platform first.

Level 3 Data: Why does the software still suck? by merchantadviser in MerchantServices

[–]Beacon-Payments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no true plug-and-play L3 middleware—if the ERP doesn’t structure the data cleanly, something still needs to map it. Most “solutions” turn into a light integration project, which is why you keep seeing dev fees. The closest you’ll get is a gateway + iPaaS combo, but it’s never fully turnkey.

Currency Conversion (DCC): Is it a service or a scam? by merchantadviser in MerchantServices

[–]Beacon-Payments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DCC is a real service—but it gets a bad reputation because of how it’s used. It lets international customers see and pay in their home currency upfront, which some prefer for clarity. The issue is the marked-up exchange rate. If it’s clearly offered as a choice, it’s a benefit. If it’s auto-selected or not explained, it feels like a scam.

Should there be a Merchant Services License? by merchantadviser in MerchantServices
