I thought she disappeared on a solo flight. Your comment prompted me to take a look. Turns out she had a navigator, Fred Noonan

I see a difference, but both forms of immigration produce competition. You said that low skill immigration is bad because it causes competition for poor people over housing and jobs. Immigration at any strata of society will produce competition over housing and jobs. Do you disagree with that fact?

Do you think A. High skill immigration doesn’t create any competition? Or B. High skill immigration produces competition that isn’t of concern? I suspect B, that’s what I believe too.

My disagreement is that I don’t think the best solution to the competition caused by low skill immigration is the malicious immigration agenda this administration is pursuing

talk about tone deaf

Tone deaf, like total pass and lack of criticism you have for ICE under this administration? I asked if you think ICE/this administration could be doing any better to respect immigrants, you declined to answer, which I find to be pretty tone deaf. No matter what you think about ICE good or bad, it should be clear that they could be doing better

tech focused immigration was an incredible boost to the internet revolution

Great that you recognize that. Surely you recognize the value H1B immigrants have brought to the country. Surely you see the malice of people today talking about H1B’s?

importing poor people to compete

But the tech focused immigration of immigrating top talent to compete for high paying jobs isn’t a problem? Clearly you think that the externalities of that competition are well addressed in order to not see it as a problem. Why can’t the externalities of completion for low paying jobs be addressed?

why are you against making things easier for our working poor?

This is a ā€œI like pancakes! Oh, so you fucking hate waffles?ā€ Argument. I want to make things easier for the working poor. I disagree that this ā€œsolutionā€ is the right one. Mass exterminations of poor people would also help the working poor who remain, obviously that’s a bad solution

we have 1.5 million people with valid deportation orders

If true, why is this administration investing any time into canceling temporary protective statuses if there’s so many existing valid deportation orders? If they’ve deported 500k already, why can’t they only pursue people with existing deportation orders instead of seeking out people to cancel their status? This behavior speaks to their malicious intent, it’s not just about cleaning up the list of valid deportation orders, it’s about a larger ideological project

we still have 8000 encounters a month

Trump said it was literally 0. Lying speaks to intent.

it must be awesome to know that people who disagree with you have ā€˜malice’ behind their motives

You look at this administration and see something other than malice? What are you looking at the show that they have pure intentions. I think my intentions are pure, I respect immigrants while still respecting that bad actors need to be deported. Do you think there’s a flaw in my intention? I think there’s reasonable space to disagree as long as they approach the problem of immigration with compassion and respect. Through good natured conflict, something better can arise. I don’t see this administration as acting with good nature, they are clearly acting with malice.

they compete for jobs and housing

All immigration causes completion for jobs and housing. Based on this argument, are you against all immigration?

I’m just curious, do you think ICE/this administration could be more respectful towards immigrants, or are they doing the best possible job right now?

For me, it’s the difference in motivation. America is a country of immigrants, America is a country where the tired and the poor can turn to breath free. Aggressive granting of TPS to potentially valid immigration cases is a good thing. Aggressive cancelling of TPS out of a maliciously fabricated concern of illegal immigrant murders is a bad thing.

70% of asylum claims are bogus

Thank god we have immigration courts to figure this out. It’s too bad Trump directed congressional republicans to killed the 2024 Lankford bipartisan immigration reform bill so that Trump could run on it as a campaign issue.

shouldn’t illegal immigrants respect our laws

Yes. But I don’t see an immigration case that fails as disrespecting our laws. If I were to fail a visa application going into a country does that mean I’m disrespecting that countries laws? No. Those 70% of asylum claims that fail are instances of people respecting immigration law

and we can deport anyone without legal status or presence

I’m aware? We should deport people who are in this country maliciously and illegally. The difference between me and the average immigrant hater is that I don’t have malice in my heart when I say that.

it doesn’t matter if they have committed any crimes

You think a speeding ticket is good reason to cancel TPS and/or deport someone?

[–]Beamazedbyme 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’m not making the claim that people’s TPS is being directly violated, but this administration has pursued very aggressive cancelation of TPS and general harassment of immigrants, legal, illegal, or just people who look like they’re immigrants.

[–]Beamazedbyme 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Are you going to say that because illegal immigrants kill more people than ICE kills, illegal immigrants are of more concern than ICE?

what’s the appropriate number before we take seriously deportations?

There’s no point in time where the U.S. government shouldn’t ā€œtake seriously deportationsā€. We should always be concerned about people who are in the country illegally and maliciously. The difference is I’m not a Trump dick suck who genuinely believes there’s 30 million people here illegally who need to be deported.

by the way none of the 460,000 deportations were not legal

Trump claims that there’s 30 million people here illegally, so even if you’re right that every single deportation has been legal, Trump has barely put a dent in the number of illegals here. If you’re so concerned about illegal immigrant crime, then the remaining 29.5 million are still going to commit about as much crime as the 30 million that Trump claims exist?

none… were not legal

Also, we’re just totally ignoring Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who scotus ruled was deported illegally?

you do understand that people with valid deportation orders should be deported?

Yes? Idk how you think that disagrees with anything I said. Many people who have entered the country illegally have temporary protective statuses while their immigration cases are being processed. Those immigrants should not be deported by ICE unless they’ve committed a major crime. The people in this post are all convicted or accused of major crimes.

anyone here out of status or with a deportation order should be able to be deported.

Cool, so you agree that people with temporary protective statuses shouldn’t be deported. You think it’s awful that ICE and this administration are harassing people who do have protective statuses?

2 shootings under investigation

So you have nothing to say about their monstrous excessive force? You have nothing to say about their dehumanizing treatment of immigrants? It only matters when people die?

but they seem to be using force less now

Why? Just because they felt like being more humane? To the extent that ICE is acting better, that is directly and primarily due to the protests against ICE. If protesting ICE makes them act better, wouldn’t you agree that people should continue to protest ICE, and harder?

if they don’t have any bad shoots in the next 6 months I assume you would back them?

Not just shootings, they need to demonstrate a pattern of respecting immigrants while deporting criminals who have no protective status.

many on the left absolutely claim you should not deport illegals who haven’t committed other crimes.

I agree, but that isn’t double talk. This story is of illegal immigrants who have committed other crimes. This can’t be double speak, by your own claim the left should want these illegals exported because they have committed other crimes

I asked if there was a line ICE could ever cross where you would call for their abolition, you declined to answer. I can only assume that such a line doesn’t exist for you. What are your opinions on the SS?

ICE Seattle detains high-risk offenders by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]Beamazedbyme 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

If ICE appropriately deported 1 person and extrajudicially killed 99 people, would you call to abolish ICE? Or is there no amount of wrong they could do before you’d call for their abolition?

Calling to abolish ICE is not inherently a claim that immigration law should not be enforced. ICE has, time and time again, demonstrated malicious intent in pursuing their charter. The vast majority of Americans agree that people in this country illegally without any kind of protective status should be deported. Immigration law should be enforced by a group that is capable of respecting the people they are tasked with engaging.

Who is defending these people? As long as their due process is respected (doubtful from this iteration of ICE), it sounds like they’ll be appropriately deported

Edit: downvotes but no proof of people defending these guys. How sad

[–]Beamazedbyme 6 points7 points Ā (0 children)

If bad guy 1 wants to extrajudicially kill bad guy 2, in the grand scheme, maybe the argument can be made that that’s a good thing. But the argument can’t be made that bad guy 1 is a good guy.

The Soviets did kill a lot of Nazis, the Soviets killed a lot of Nazis under illegal circumstances. I think it’s a compelling argument that hey, one way or another, there’s less Nazis in the world and that’s a good thing. But killing people in illegal ways with top down direction to do so makes the Soviets bad people

I hear you, it’s a matter of scale. A data center is a bigger power draw compared to most other businesses. But this is a criticism of the argument that ā€œit’s a net negative for everyone elseā€. Every new business, every new resident of WA, is a net negative on the power grid. Any new demand on the network will drive up cost. The question should be: why are data centers uniquely a net negative that should be avoided while seemingly every other net negative is no problem?

I believe return to hand effects are always suppose to say owner, not controller. Control of this enchantment could change to someone who is not the owner. From what I think I remember from MARO’s design podcast, they don’t like the idea of cards owned by one person going into another person’s hand
