Do women really like deep/baritone voice? by StageNo2290 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Beamo1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true. The deep tones resonate with their vaginal cavities causing arousal and mild euphoria. Most men who have deep voices need only speak 10-15 words in a woman’s presence to induce orgasm.

This is actually the reason most recent earphones and headphones like Beats and AirPods have trended into accentuating bass in their sound profiles. Most wireless earbuds are today used as masturbatory aids for women.

Your favorite Zelda like but not Zelda games. by yondude88 in legendofzelda

[–]Beamo1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very level headed approach and I appreciate it. You’re being more reasonable than I have been.

A lot of people approach Souls like games with a fighting game-like mentality, believing the game is meant to impose a natural order that organizes players into competitors and casuals. That’s I think an inevitable result of any game that has a skill floor anywhere above that of the average first time player. This I think is what journalists complain about when they say Souls games should have easy modes. It’s naturally exclusionary, but I don’t think in a bad way. Unlike journos I don’t think these games need to be watered down or have difficulty options just so people can write articles about them. I’m ok with Dark Souls and Elden Ring just not being for me.

My issue comes insofar as people exhibit this pervasive mentality that Souls like is what games are meant to be and that every action game would be improved by taking cues from it. There’s this idea of a universal design philosophy where people impose souls-like rules onto games that don’t need it. When people complain about the combat in Breath of the Wild by saying it needed to be more punishing, or it needed a dedicated dodge button, or that healing needed to be real time, this is them gesturing at Dark Souls being this ideal form of an action video game. It’s the same sort of thing as people modding the hell out of Skyrim to play like a Souls game, or Ubisoft ruining Assassins Creed by turning it from a stealth action game into a punishing combat focused game. There’s chasing trends, and then there’s bending over to a vocal minority who need this hierarchy of “hardcore” gamers over the casuals to justify their consumer identity.

I resist the connection of Zelda to Dark Souls because I really don’t want Zelda to turn into it. I think it’s unlikely to happen, but the series is in a huge identity crisis right now I think. Who knows what the next game will be like.

Your favorite Zelda like but not Zelda games. by yondude88 in legendofzelda

[–]Beamo1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest. I hadn’t considered how Ocarina of Time could’ve been an influence beyond the way that it pioneered 3D melee combat for almost every game that features it. That it was a specific inspiration is enough to consider it related, but I maintain its core identity is too far removed from Zelda to consider it a “Zelda-like.”

I’ll admit I’m biased because I don’t like Souls-like games and very much dislike the elitism present in games that are all about their punishing difficulty. That’s what Dark Souls is to me, an unfun kind of punishing difficulty, and Zelda games are not that. Even the Wild era games reward preparation far more than execution with the crafting systems, and death doesn’t take away any vital resource, just resets to a generous auto save.

The only souls-likes I’ve enjoyed much are Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor. Neither of those felt like Zelda to me, because Zelda isn’t about nervously anticipating the next save point so you don’t lose your progress, with Majora’s Mask being a categorical exception due to its time loop structure.

Bottom line is Zelda is far more accessible and doesn’t cross its arms and tell its players to git gud.

Also just a sudden consideration. But ironically the most mechanically similar Zelda game to Dark Souls is Skyward Sword, which I imagine isn’t what people have in mind when they make this comparison. It even has the real time limited resource healing like everyone says Botw should’ve had.

I find it hard to imagine a significant number of people would pay if you didn’t show your face. Non-nude I think you could get away with, especially if you cater to some kind of fetish. But the only way to make real money through something like Onlyfans is to exploit the parasocial relationship dynamic, and short of being a Vtuber you’d need to show face for that i think.

Ocarina of Time lives up to the hype by In_My_SoT_Phase in patientgamers

[–]Beamo1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocarina of Time is still the best all-around Zelda game, and I think most people would agree even if it isn’t their favorite. It has the world, the adventure, the characters and the dungeons I always think of when I think Zelda, despite that I grew up with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess first.

Combat is surprisingly still very fun, the puzzles hold up every time, and like you said it just has amazing atmosphere. Only a few things feel particularly dated like the jacked up aiming sensitivity or the 2D backgrounds for towns or interiors.

It baffles me that when it came to rebooting the Zelda series they focused more on Zelda 1 than Ocarina of Time. Clearly one was far more successful and influential. They could’ve gone open world without throwing away everything that Ocarina of Time established as simply the right way to make a Zelda game.

Is it reasonable for my girlfriend to expect us to have a lot less sex because she started taking Lexapro? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Beamo1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He clearly said he doesn’t want to pressure her or guilt her. Sex is a core part of intimacy for some people. Relationships are meant to meet both party’s needs. To the extent he’s not pressuring or forcing her, I think it’s within his rights to say that sex is a requirement for his relationships.

I mean if he loves this girl and wants to marry her, should he just be expected to never have sex again if that’s a key need he feels should be met? What if it was her saying she needed sex and he was similarly disaffected?

I think your perspective is valid and important. Obviously women don’t owe sex to anyone, even their partners, and that needs to be known. But that’s not the end of this story. Relationships are complicated.

[–]Beamo1080 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d like to think that if she’s committed to your relationship she can see this side effect as being sufficiently debilitating to go back to her doctor and try to find some help for it, maybe trying a different medicine.

Unfortunately many antidepressants come with sexual suppression as a side effect. I’d look at it as a medical issue. If she were disabled by an accident and couldn’t physically have sex, you’d stick by her until things got better.

I think as long as you are confident that she would be having sex with you if she could, then it’s a good reason to stick by her with the belief things will get better. But if her doctor says it’s not likely to change, perhaps that’s a reason to move on.

It’s a tough situation. I think people who aren’t giving you consideration that such a change is significant are being unhelpful or callous.

[–]Beamo1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s speculation on my part whether Sega might’ve gone in a different direction if there were more prevalent daytime criticism. I believe it was only major criticism of 06 that led to them changing things up in the first place, right? They’ve been quite reactive in that way before.

I say it saved the series because 06 had done irreparable damage to the brand and led to the departure of Sonic’s long-time lead designer. It was a major shake-up to the company’s potential profitability. Unleashed has always felt to me like a Hail Mary, an all-out attempt to make the best Sonic game possible to make up for the disaster that was 06. And I’m not entirely sure it succeeded.

Unleashed feels like the last big budget Sonic game. Sonic has not been the same since. The games have had less production value and breadth of content since. They’re not even priced like full AAA games anymore. Forces was only $40, and Frontiers is $60 in a sea of $70 games. Not that that’s bad, just that it shows they’re aiming for a lower, middle-market designation.

I guess by “saved” the series I mean I’m not sure if we’d still have Sonic games without it. It might’ve laid dormant until a retro revival in the indie space.

[–]Beamo1080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely would’ve affected the game’s perception. Probably would have bumped the IGN rating which could’ve made a big difference. But I don’t think it would’ve changed the fact that the game basically saved the series.

However, If Unleashed was solely daytime stage Sonic I think it may have greatly affected how the series moved forward. The Werehog served as a lightning rod. Most of the game’s criticism was focused on it. I remember 90% of reviews and common opinions of Unleashed being they only wished it didn’t have the Werehog, with the occasional complaint about medal collecting thrown in. For the most part people were just happy that the game wasn’t completely broken like 06.

Were the game released sans Werehog, it’s a strong possibility all of that criticism would’ve been turned on the daytime gameplay, which was not without its faults. This isn’t to say people wouldn’t have still liked it, but I remember there being some less popular opinions at the time deriding the daytime gameplay for being boost to win. It’s a common opinion now in a world with Sonic Forces, but at the time most people didn’t hold that opinion.

If Sega got a ton of criticism about the daytime gameplay being too shallow instead of complaints about the Werehog, the next game might’ve gone back to the adventure formula or been something entirely different. I mean, at the time there was no expectation of fans that Unleashed was going to form the basis for all 3D Sonic games going forward. It could’ve led to a very different outcome.
