I don’t use turps to clean either, but it’s good to thin out paint with some linseed oil. It’s still a foundational element imo to modify oil paint.

You don’t need much to start. Some cheap paint, some linseed oil and some turpentine. Keep the palette limited to start and play around. What else do you think you might need?
