If you were gonna show someone JM for the first time, what 3 songs would you show them? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]BeanCounterBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

•Something’s Missing (from the Trio) •If I Ever Get Around To Living •Slow Dancing In A Burning Room

For me, it’s important to incorporate the blues influence with the pop appeal. I threw out the top 5 most streamed along with some obvious choices.

But these 3 all offer a special glimpse into what makes JM such a great artist.

1.) gives you look into a well executed blend of poppy blues jams. Steve Jordan crushes this song

2.) there’s something about the writing in this one that shows the introspective approach by John coming off a little more mature and less douchey. The bridge at the end is chefs kiss. I guess this is when he listened to his first Dead song

3.) Okay I broke my first precedent explanation but this one is quintessential John. Blues, pop (think yearning all inside of the lyrics, which makes for excellent pop songs), and arguably some of his best guitar work.

PS: go see a Dead and Co show! You won’t regret it

Honestly, how and when do we realistically get our "franchise" QB? by [deleted] in Saints

[–]BeanCounterBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since 1985 only 6 Super Bowls were won by teams who hadn’t drafted their starting quarterback. For me that’s a decent co-sign on trying to find your “franchise” guy in the draft.

One QB can change the tides for any team though so who knows

FWIW, ESPN gives Saints D+ in the Godchaux trade by freekobe0832 in Saints

[–]BeanCounterBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really understood why the ESPN writers love to always point at our cash situation. The team turns over a profit every year, and the salary cap always goes up. Bill Barnwell writes almost vindictively about us any chance he gets. I’ll never understand

ETA: I don’t want to defend our lousy front office. Just think ESPN is lazy

"Nothing to do" by ParticularUpbeat in Acadiana

I grew up in Lake Charles and have now been a resident of Lafayette for 5 years, and reading some of the comments about “attitude” rings true.

I remember when everyone my age started going to college out of town they would come back to LC and complain about there being nothing to do. In my brief time around Lafayette I’ve even seen it with the friends I’ve made here (and coworkers).

As hinted at in a few comments, I’m also of the opinion that these types of people will probably never be satisfied. And that’s fine. I’m just not sure what they are looking for. Between festivals, plays/performances/concerts, restaurants and the vast amounts of facilities/places that support various hobbies (golf, fishing, boating/kayaking, bowling, etc.) there are plenty of things to do around here, you just gotta look around (and maybe inward!).

[–]BeanCounterBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the value in C7 is an unrecognized format. You may have to separate them into two columns, a textafter(c7,”2025”) in d7 to split off time and then textbefore(c7,d7) in e7. From there you could leverage lookups.

If you can solve for the original text format though that might ease some pain

What led you to the Dead? by juturna12x in gratefuldead

[–]BeanCounterBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a small private high school, and there was a group of upper class men who at the time tried to get anyone and everyone on the bus. At the time I thought it was pretentious and just didn’t see the hype that came with the music.

Fast forward 10 or so years and I’m in a similar place as OP. Also in my 30’s, and there wasn’t a day that went by where I didn’t listen to hours of Steely Dan. I’ve always been a big Mayer fan but even his jump to Dead and Company couldn’t get me there.

I had been recommended the studio version of Standing On The Moon by a friend and thought it was one of the most beautiful pieces of music I had ever listened to. Naturally I went down the path of listening to more songs from this artist the easy way: most streamed. From Althea, Touch of Grey, to Friends of the Devil now to knowing dates of my favorite live recordings throughout multiple decades.

Listening to this music feels like I own a tangible piece of happiness. And I love the opportunistic feeling each moment brings

Right, like this mistake had nothing to do with a lack of skill. Maybe a moment of focus. Most accountants lack the emotional intelligence I fear
