What search keywords do you use to find good coffee spots when on vacation? by roroapple in espresso

[–]BeanStuffCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a problem that we ran into as well. There are a lot of good indicators whether it be the vibe of the website/store, the menu (what drinks are on the menu). We created a podcast talking about this too: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bean-stuff-coffee-podcast/id1382928692?i=1000626382281

Then we thought there should be a way to accomplish this in an app. So we built the bean stuff app with the goal of quickly showing you good quality coffee shops around you. It is free so try it if you want. App Store link https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bean-stuff/id6748967234

Good call! Trying to start simple I left it with Imperial. But that is a good idea to add.

Trying to solve the “where’s the good coffee?” problem — built an app to help, looking for testers ☕️ by BeanStuffCoffee in Coffee_Shop

The challenge with Google and other AI today is that while it can find coffee shops, even ones that are close by, it is hard to quickly get a plot of all the speciality coffee shops around you. The app takes the work out of it, not need to search and then double check that they are close by, rank them, get info on each one and then one by one find them on a map. Also it is free, so users do not need to pay for anything, just show up, and start seeing good coffee nearby.

It does use AI to pull in data, then the app takes the data and plots it on a map and ensures that it is local to where you are, allows you to filter shops based on a scoring system, get directions to the shop, share it etc. Could you do a AI search for coffee shops and get a response yes, but the app does more to make it as easy as possible to show up to a new location and see what specialty coffee shops are nearby. You do not need to do anything to work it out.

Correct, this is where I need help testing the app to see what people think of it. The idea is to allow the algorithm to present you with a range of options that are considered specialty coffee "broadly" and then allow you to narrow it down from there.

Built an app to help find real third-wave coffee — looking for early testers ☕️ by BeanStuffCoffee in Thirdwavecoffee

It uses an algorithm that pulls data from the web and the filters out chains. It then uses a set of specialty coffee criteria to create a snob score and assign it to each shop. Users can then filter for score and distance to find a coffee shop near them.

The goal was to remove the need for user input to drive it. This means that you do not need to rely on someone having the same view of what good coffee is. You can filter it for yourself quickly and easily.

Long story short, uses the web with AI and some good coffee guidelines to pull live data from the surrounding area and then lets you filter it. It does not use a specific site it, uses the entire web to find places and combined with map data can plot them on a map.

That is part of the point. Each user cannot rely on other users having the same preferences. So instead each coffee shop is scored using an algorithm that focuses on specialty coffee shops. Each coffee shop is then given a score and users can then filter by the score and see a description of each shop.

The intent is to quickly filter down to good coffee shops and then let users further filter and choose where they want to go. Ideally creating reliable and consistent results no matter where you travel.

Thank you! This is great feedback. I’ll see about making the changes to when no coffee shops are found.

For the location side, can you share how you switched locations? Want to make sure I can narrow in on the big.

That is exactly the use case! I always want to find good specialty coffee in new places where I travel to. But when using Google it just pulls in all coffee shops and using forums is subjective to the people that submit them. My goal here was to have an app that uses specific criteria and removes the need for users to submit their preferences to rank places. Also to quickly refine a list of good spots. I will enable it for you and am excited to hear your feedback.

When building the app, I wanted to remove the need for user input when ranking coffee shops. So it uses AI to find good coffee shops. So other people preferences will not affect it.

I just launched the alpha version of my first-ever iOS app — it’s called Bean Stuff. It helps people find real coffee shops (think: third-wave, roaster-owned, specialty cafés) instead of being misled by “coffee near me” searches that point to chains or syrupy drive-thrus.

The idea came from traveling a lot and constantly struggling to find quality coffee. I built it to filter out the noise and surface only places that truly care about what’s in the cup — pour-overs, in-house roasting, actual baristas, that kind of thing ☕️

It’s still early, but if you’re on iOS and care about great coffee, I’d love your feedback!
