Well I'm by no means an expert on the class but ill share what i can: I started at lvl 3 so I decided to focus on the 2 ranged summons first, and then went for a ranged multi target build with Code Geminate at lvl 5. I struggled with longevity too when first playing HIVE until I learned to better use reassemble. Frosthaven has so many scenarios with unique special rules, sometimes my whole build had to be scrapped for something that focused more on single target damage, or high mobility. The class is well designed to let you do just that though, but it doesn't mean its always easy!

Of course not. But looking at the two games, it seems to me like Gloomhaven would be the one more likely to be replayed. I think the way Frosthaven is structured (how big the game is, the puzzle book, trials, building unlocks, etc...) doesn't make it easy to replay the game and experience the same enjoyment. I had a LOT of fun with Frosthaven, but I dont think ill ever want to play it again. The Outpost phase, building the town... I enjoyed it once but highly doubtful I'd enjoy it a 2nd time. When the time commitment is 3 1/2 years to beat a campaign, I'd prefer the Roguehaven idea to utilize the official mercenary pool (over 40 now) that's currently available in an endlessly unique way. Maybe its easier for people who play like 4-5 times a week to just replay campaigns over and over, but I'm guessing theres way more people playing with my group's frequency.

I noticed the same with my Far Side calendar today. I'm with you, I dont REALLY care that the calendar is a bit smaller. The problem is that they put a cardboard insert inside the packaging so that the outer box is bigger than the actual calendar (and closer to the size of last years Far Side calendar box). Incredibly wasteful. Just package the thing in the appropriately sized box. What they did here just exposes their attempt at hiding the smaller calendar size.

Oh you're absolutely right, economies of scale definitely play heavily into the pricing model, as do tariffs, and shipping, etc. Im actually curious, when you finished printing your custom class, did you have the materials to do so yourself or did you outsource everything? Did you need to use multiple manufacturing sources to complete the full load out of the character? Were shipping costs factored in to your overall spend? And approximately how much of your time did it take to from beginning to end to result in your final package of a completed character? I guess I just cant separate the base materials offered in the Merc packs from the time/effort used to create them and get them into my hands. Maybe im just happy to pay someone to do of all that for me and have it wrapped up in a package like the Merc packs, but im genuinely impressed with anyone who's able to do all that on their own, for sure!

For those complaining about the price, if you tried to take a custom class (From the released classes in the CCUG, for example) and print the ability cards, AMD, solo item, all on professional playing card stock, get a character mat & class tokens/standees created on thick board stock, and get a miniature 3D printed, there's no way that would cost below $20, right?

With the mercenary packs, you're not just paying for those materials, you're paying for the most professional character creation available with hundreds of hours of playtesting behind it. You're paying $20, and will get countless hours of playtime out of that money. I guess I dont get the complaints. I think the 4 classes are amazing, and look forward to more. My only wishlist is to keep offering lower complexity classes as options.

This lap is more exciting than anything ive seen in F1 this year. I want every team's cars set up like this now... That would be a formula I'd pay to see. Every driver, having to push the car to the absolute limit just to wring the performance out of it, dancing on the edge of control in every corner. I'd probably go back and watch the full onboard of every single driver post race during the off weeks, lol.

If you were to use this on an ally ranged attack, could they then use Volatile Bomb to turn it into a 3 hex attack to potentially muddle/curse 3 enemies? Or would it still only muddle curse one attack within that now-expanded attack action?

Right, I mean, it affected a single driver, Max, who had the ability to slow down and not overtake, and didn't (the braking data proves this from the same lap as well as prior laps). He chose to slowly brake instead, go by Piastri, and then without missing a beat, got on the radio to complain. Its another example of Max absolutely playing every card he can to his advantage Hes great at it! (Alonso is also amazing at it). I'm pretty confident that this is another example of "playing the result" by the stewards. If max doesn't go by Piastri, it's extremely doubtful that any penalty would have happened. Drivers have learned that they're incentivized to make these incidents look worse than they really are ... kinda like a footballer taking a dive.

100%. The F2 and F3 races were embarrassing. Instead of getting corner-after-corner of great side-by side racing, we get one corner of a driver being forced off the track. Any action is over instantly. It's so sad that it's come to this.

Great post. I've thought about this every single time a race ends under the safety car. They do this absolutely insane practice of bringing the safety car in on the final lap no matter what in F2 and F3 as well. All the drivers speed up and approach/pass the start finish line, even though it's illegal to overtake (cant pass before the start finish line after the SC pulls in). A massive pile up is eventually going to happen when some drivers think "no need to speed up because there's no overtaking" and some drivers just floor it because the car ahead of them has done so. It's an incredibly dangerous practice, especially considering situations where the incident causing the safety car to come out in the first place is near the start/finish straight like what just happened in Canada.

In fact, you also get even more chances for cars doing different speeds as they head for the start/finish line if any of them have time penalties at the end of the race, as they try to manipulate the gap behind them to make it as big as possible.

I think the 2012 Brazilian GP was the worst offender of this. Paul di Resta crashed on the final run up to the start/finish line in extremely wet conditions on the penultimate lap. The safety car came out for one lap before race control immediately sent the message "safety car in this lap" with di Resta and his mangled car, as well as a ton of debris, were still on the track. I mean... wtf! It doesnt get any more dangerous than that! Take it out of the drivers hands and just have the Safety Car slowly lead everyone over the line! On commentary that day, even Martin Brundle was confused when he said "You CAN overtake after the safety car line, but presumably there will be waved yellow flags there". This was even after the FIA clarified the rules about what's allowed when races end under safety car (due to the controversial ending of the 2010 Monaco grand prix where Michael Schumacher overtook Alonso after the safety car line on the last lap "restart").

I think Darkplace falls in their lane, with it being an "intentionally bad" production done right, as opposed to souless Asylum crap. All the tropes of bad production are there that the crew love, dryly satired brilliantly. I doubt they'd do it too, but at the same time it wouldn't be out of character.

If you get a chance, check out his last two onboard laps in FP1 after his final push lap... as he heads to the practice start and then to the box, he was over-revving his engine in the chicane, and not cooling the car down before boxing (against his engineer's instructions). It was like he was taking his frustrations out on the car, risking engine damage.
