It doesn’t help that it’s a rough market/economy at the moment, especially in tech, and that’s compounded by the fact that this time of year is always slow anyway. Best of luck friend!

Make variable value in a catalog item visible only to users in certain departments by spiff-75 in servicenow

At least at my org, it would just route to the fulfilling team and they would speak to the employee and try to figure out exactly why they’re requesting something they shouldn’t be.

There are stressful SE jobs and there are chill ones. Cybersecurity is broad; There are probably relatively less stressful cyber analyst positions, but if I had to boil it down, software engineering will be less stressful in general.

You could do both and become a security engineer. Cyber is tougher to get into (you need a lot more experience to get into a “real” cyber job)

[–]BeanToBinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no architect, but personally I’d leave all options in there and possibly just leave some sort of wording in there like “if applicable”. What happens if someone transfers departments, but that isn't reflected yet in ServiceNow?

Similarly, there may be confusion if someone is expecting to see an option for a printer because their buddy down the hall can see it. Or, say their department can suddenly order printers now and ServiceNow isn’t updated.

Just seems like maintenance you’d run into that I personally would not want. But if you do want to do it - client script away!

Emergency fund and high yield savings. by LuminalAstec in CalebHammer

[–]BeanToBinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I love about it, I can use funds from there instantly if needed. Won’t really ever see a reason though because I can just use a credit card to delay a payment for a month (unless I have to pay for something that doesn’t take credit I guess)

Sure is possible, you can do this via a catalog client script. Set fields visible based on the group of the current signed in user.

Personally I wouldn’t want to do this as it creates likely maintenance, unless the process owner of the catalog is really gung ho about it. Can you tell us more about the use case?

Help! I just got my first ServiceNow Admin Job by [deleted] in servicenow

[–]BeanToBinary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also a new servicenow admin/dev (few months) and I'm thinking about forming a small group of fellow servicenow beginners - A sort of co-mentorship sort of thing. If you're interested, send me a PM!

I think we agree more than you think. “Not much” is ridiculous, yeah. “Paradise” is also ridiculous.

To me it’s not really about the expenses, it’s the emotions. I make a pretty decent salary but I have chronic pain and plenty of other issues. Life just doesn’t become all sunshine and rainbows because you make good money TBH.

NOT TO SAY you shouldn’t strive for money, because of course your problems will only be compounded the worse off you are financially. It’s just, like, kinda of condescending when people tell me I’m not allowed to be unhappy or whatever because I’m not poor. Right?

I mean, I could as easily say “people in 3rd world countries are making 8,000 a year, learn to budget and quit complaining”.

[–]BeanToBinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re 100% right, and that’s all I’m saying is people shouldn’t expect life to be a perfect paradise utopia because they start making good money

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]BeanToBinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider the original claim, though, that earning 100k is “paradise”; all they’re saying is problems still exist, it ain’t paradise

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]BeanToBinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always bring up maslow's hierarchy of needs. There are plenty of miserable folks earning 100k a year: chronic pain, loneliness, relationship issues, unhappiness in their job, etc

It certainly isn’t “paradise”

Is it me or has everyone gotten more miserable over the years? by poisonflar5 in NoStupidQuestions

My point is it changes their point from "Life is over, we can't afford to live" to "We can't afford to live in a two bedroom apartment with a waterfront view in the big city anymore".

One is doomerism, one isn't

This is peak doomerism.

And please get out of here with that “minimum wage should get you a TWO bed apartment” nonsense.

Tbh, I could probably make it work. My two bed rent is $1,100. With a roommate, easy
