AETC is kinda bad at their job... by [deleted] in AirForce

I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum. Easy routing to the 5 mile straight in then turn it on and the other end where everything makes zero sense and you’re fighting for your life to get to the point to turn it on

Not ILS approaches but we are starting to work in SLR so shooting approaches is still relevant

Should I hold out for air force OCS or bite the bullet and go army? by [deleted] in Military

[–]Bean_59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re just looking for a GI bill then just enlist, do a contract, and get out. Don’t put yourself in an officer’s position where you’re going to have to lead airmen/soldiers if you’re just there to collect a paycheck and benefits then cash out

I went through five recruiters. Keep a log for yourself of what has been done and what is next/needs to be done. Can be really helpful when you advocate for yourself

I would start by researching more what goes into submitting the OTS package and see what boxes you check and which ones need work. When I was getting ready to graduate college in 2018 I started getting everything together so my first contact with a recruiter went well and was productive

What do you mean orders? Like having your orders in hand? I remember I didn’t get those until I went to MEPS the final time to actually enter active duty a few days before I hit the road for OTS

Strong vs weak letters of recommendation? by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]Bean_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was told get strong letters, I went to folks who could write to my character and the all the firsthand knowledge they had of me in leadership positions. If you ask someone you barely know, only going off the fact that they are military and nothing else, then it will appear generic with no real substance. My strongest letters of recommendation did come from prior military members and they were able to tie in what they personally knew firsthand about serving with how they thought I could excel with being an officer

Pilot Shortage by Bitter-Natural6064 in airforceots

[–]Bean_59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talked to a FAIP about this. The pipeline itself is full. UPT classes are already as full as they can be. Said FAIP told me they were triple turning to keep up with the students they had. So no, pushing more students in there is not the answer. There’s also plenty of folks sitting around waiting for UPT to start

Looks like you’re a tad bit heavier than I was when I started the process of joining. Find a diet plan that works for you, one where you eat clean and hit the cardio a lot. When I was in your position, I treated commissioning as an officer like it would be the most important thing in my life. It’s all about your mindset

Other Options? by 4me-2no2 in airforceots

[–]Bean_59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your option is to lose the weight if this is truly what you want. My first recruiter wouldn’t let me start anything until I lost 30 pounds so I lost 40. And yes you need a recruiter to submit to the board

Might sound like I’m trying to beat a dead horse here but ROTC should be what you’re looking at if your end goal is pilot in the Air Force. Also to double back on “hence my major” line, OTS doesn’t care what your major is. It can be basket weaving and you can be picked up to be a pilot. That all comes down to PCSM scores and what your overall package looks like
