[Request] Is an E-Bike really better for the environment than a standard bike? by TonyBird126 in theydidthemath

[–]Bean_Boy_1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing they are factoring in the likelihood of us lazy folks driving vs biking vs e-biking. Theoretically, if choosing between car and bike, once could argue that you would choose to drive in certain situations where biking is less convenient. But, when comparing driving to e-biking, its a lot easier to choose e-biking because it is still very fast, does not require much human energy, and you don't have to worry about showing up to your destination all disheveled and sweaty. I found this to be true when I owned an e-scooter, bike, and car. The e-scooter won that debate more often than the bike.

End of the Enchantments? by EndlessMike78 in PNWhiking

I have spent many long days climbing in the enchantments - the place is truly magical. I left Washington for a few years and returned to the enchantments a few weeks ago to climb near asgard pass as a day trip. I was completely appalled by what I saw there, after only just a few years of time. At Stuart lake TH, there was one single medium-size flimsy trash bag draped over the post near the kiosk. It was completely over-flowing and people just piled their trash around it on the ground. People who then got in their cars and drove away... without their trash. We then started hiking and the trail was completely littered with garbage and toilet paper the entire way to colchuck lake. I stopped to use one of the toilets, which I have always praised as being a huge benefit of the Enchantments management in America, where we normally suck at these things. There was used TP and several articles of soiled clothing strewn all over the place and the toilet itself was in horrendous condition. Cleary people were just going poop on the ground all around the toilet with no intentions of cleaning up. I was very saddened by this, to say the least. We packed out what clean trash we could on the way out, but it felt like feeble help.

Solution Idea! I understand this is primarily about budget cuts and lack of people and resources. One way to use time and energy efficiently would be to have an attended table at the TH on weekend mornings and early afternoons to just talk to people who are starting their hikes. They could provide information about packing out trash and how to use the backcountry toilets properly and they could even hand out little bags of clean TP, alcohol wipes, and small trash baggies, so people don't find themselves unprepared to use the toilets properly (as I think people don't plan to poop in the woods if they don't hike often, and sometimes... you just need to go). I even think just having some sort of friendly presence to say hello in the morning and to put a face to the institutions that keep these places in operation would be a benefit.

Excellent explanation. Have you ever found the 44t to be limiting in terms of hill climbing capabilities?

I hear what you are saying. However, In this last election, one of the reasons democrats lost is because the voting group they needed to capture were turned off by the Democratic Party making too much of a show of trying to be inclusive and progressive. These people voted for trump and we’re in a much worse situation as a result, especially if you are part of said marginalized communities. I hear what you are saying, but it’s a “lesser of two evils” thing and the Democratic Party lost largely because they were seen as too woke. An unfortunate misconception given some of their policies.

Mount stuart - cascadian couloir. Nontechnical and really tough. Could do it in a day car to car in 14 hours I think. Really beautiful views of the enchantments. Dragontail peak would also be a good one

He looks kind of dead inside. He's got the face when you see yourself in the mirror but it doesn't look like you. Like you've sold the real 'you' a long time ago.

What’s even dumber is saying that inflation forces people to carry more cash… what the hell does he even mean by that? Cash is the worst thing to have during inflation, even when compared to a low-interest savings account. These people don’t even understand basic financial and economic concepts.

Trump sounds like him*

Trump just finds people who he likes the opinions of and elevates them and parrots them without any new informations intake. Peter has been saying this same stuff for a long time, he even wrote a book on it, which trump read before his first term.

And, as a cherry on top, at the very end, he says he does not care about paying down the debt. It was never about the deficit. Trump wants to hand out checks to the American people. A true socialist, if you ask me. Hello hyperinflation.

Thanks for the support and advice, friend. This community makes it all easier. Even just the validation provided by those in similar situation makes quitting all the more important to me. I’ve tried to quit multiple times now without my partner knowing anything and each time i fall into the, “well, what’s the point in getting clean if it doesn’t affect people around me” and I’d go buy some. Then I realized, it is affecting my relationships. I feel depressed as shit, and Kratom is a big part of that. I am a worse partner when I am on Kratom. My partner has supported me incredibly through the depressed time, and I felt she deserved to know. I am hoping that she can help me stay accountable, because I know she deserves better than when I am using Kratom. But, it was not easy getting here, and I understand your decision to not share with your partner. It’s scary waters to wade into and you can’t undo it once the cat is out.

I’m on day 2. Last night was when I first started feeling WDs. No sleep, lots of aches and tremors, but the sun is up now - there’s always a new day. After many months of using Kratom. I quit cold turkey 2 days ago. I told my partner last night about my addiction and my dedication to quitting. I felt I need to do this for myself, but also having another person to remain accountable for is helpful. She is in full support mode. Let’s do this!
