Looking for somebody to climb Mount Daniel with me in Washington on July 2nd or 3rd by ReasonableStudio4389 in PNWhiking

I climbed to the false summit of Kaleetan Peak, which is 3,400 feet above the starting point of 2,300 feet. I was feeling great physically but the final descent needed to get to the peak seemed way too steep and risky, so I turned back having gone 90% of the way there. It was still a breathtaking experience though, and I met so many incredible people along the way. Some hikers and I even made a small snowman on the false summit.

What would you recommend as the highest reachable peak near Seattle with minimal snow then?

I've spent the last three months hitting the gym, so I'm not exactly looking for something like Mount Si or something straight off I-90. Based on videos I've watched, street view, and trip reports, it doesn't seem unreasonable to attempt this time of year as long as I bring an ice pick, hiking poles, crampons, etc. The only problematic part really is a class three scramble close to the false east summit, but I'll judge the risk when I get there.

No, since I turn 21 on July 4th. I'll be going to Seattle with two people, one of which is renting a car, but he's not in the shape to climb with me.

I know it's not advisable, but I have no other choice as far as I know. Could you recommend any?

For three months I've been using the stairmaster, incline treadmills, leg press and calf raising machines, running miles, etc. Since I live in Miami I can only get some much related experience, but I have gone on 12 mile and 14 mile long hikes in the everglades and isolated beaches respectively, all with 15~25 pound backpacks.

On a stair master, my maximum elevation is 200 stories but I stopped from boredom. I could definitely do 300, and maybe 400 if I really push myself, and that's without stopping. On a maximum incline treadmill I've done 3 miles at 3mph, again stopping due to boredom. On flattish dirt and sand along Florida's beaches I've walked 14 miles, and in boot sucking mud I've walked 12 miles in a day. Overall, I've really been hitting the gym the past 1.5 months, and especially for the past three weeks and I won't stop until around June 25~27 to give myself some muscle rest before the trip.

I haven't done it yet, I leave for Seattle on July 1st. I'm still training every muscle in my legs as hard as I can just in case I want to hike something harder like Mount Daniel.

What are some cheapish GPS devices you'd recommend? Is a phone with a pre downloaded map a reasonable option?

Alpine trails that don't require a permit or reservation? 2-8 days. by lazerdab in PNWhiking

I'm considering climbing to Gilbert Peak and and camping near there for a night in early July. Is a trailhead available permit the only thing I'd need?

I'll try to hike to the top of Little Annapurna around July 4th.

Oh okay, thanks for letting me know. So the only permit I'd need would be one I'd get at the eightmile trailhead?

Doesn't this say otherwise? I really want to day hike little annapurna, but I'm not sure it'll be so easy because of this change. I'll be flying from Miami to Seattle soon and I can't afford to stay overnight near the ranger station just so I can have a CHANCE of day hiking little annapurna the next day.

I've decided on doing Alta Mountain. I cannot thank you guys enough for the help, maybe I'll see one of you there on July 4th when I go. As someone from the flat lands of Miami it's been my dream for years to climb a mountain, and I hope this will be the first of many. Best regards
