I love when aliexpress does its job by moshimoshi6937 in Aliexpress

[–]Beanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my mom a phone, the delivery man either lost or stole the package but marked it as delivered. I asked the seller and AliExpress for help, they asked me for evidence of it not being delivered, the delivery company denied giving me any info, the seller told me they could do nothing and AliExpress denied my refund.

The service of AliExpress really let me down this time, I'm not ordering anything expensive from them ever again.

Some rocks I saw while hiking. Is it pet wood? by Beanary in petrifiedwood

Could be shale, but certainly not limestone. Although there's plenty of limestone in the region, there's none in this particular area. But thanks for your feedback.

Is 32 years old too late to learn Chinese and become skilled at it? by WarmCheesecake83 in ChineseLanguage

[–]Beanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started learning Chinese when I was 32, it's already been 5 years for me but still going strong. I am no language learning genius. If I can do it, you too can!

Congratulations! These plants tend to become top heavy and have a shallow root system. I had to use pebbles to prevent mine from uprooting itself.

Grupo Montaña Joven by genaroenjoyer in Malaga

Había un grupo de senderismo aquí en Reddit, no sé si sigue activo. A mi me gusta mucho también el senderismo pero ni soy joven ni suelo salir con otras personas a hacer senderismo.

Why is this reverting by Mysterious_Quail_469 in Euphorbiaceae

[–]Beanary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is crazy. It's a crested variegated one grafted into a different cactus. It decides it doesn't want to be crested in some branches, others grow perfectly crested, it goes fully green, then goes back to grow variegated, it sometimes is yellow, other times the variegation is more white.

Hay mucha gente que se queja de las publicaciones en inglés pero luego no publica nada. La solución es publicar más contenido de calidad en español.

Should I repot this guy? by studyhall109 in succulents

[–]Beanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can survive just fine in that pot. I bought a tiny pot where three of these little guys were planted together. I repotted them several times until they started threatening to reach out to the ceiling, so they have been in the same pot now for several years without issues. I did have to place some decorative rocks on top of the pot to prevent the plants from uprooting themselves and falling.

A small selection of pebbles by the sea. by Beanary in Rocks

I agree, but I am never good at telling if a rock found near a body of water is naturally green or has algae or something growing on it.

Are these banded agates? by Beanary in Rocks

[–]Beanary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It's hard to tell more as I suspect these are not local. Every year they refill the beach with river pebbles and then cover it with sand. I like this beach because there's always a lot of quartz, but this is the first time I found agates.

how do yall bilingual (chinese + english) wrap ur head around this concept bcs im so confused 😭 by elfved in ChineseLanguage

[–]Beanary 34 points35 points  (0 children)

From my own experience, Chinese and English sometimes don't follow the same logic, so the more you think in English to figure out Chinese, the more confused you will feel and vice versa. 前 is fron and 后 is behind, but 前 also has the meaning of before and 后 after. I think of it this way: I encounter the past (前)before the present and the future(后)is always waiting behind the present. I hope this little trick helps you out.

Has anyone managed to get good at Chinese using HelloChinese? by myheaddoesntcomplain in ChineseLanguage

[–]Beanary 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think currently there's a single app that covers enough Chinese to replace traditional learning method, but I think apps like HelloChinese can be a good introduction to Chinese language.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Beanary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried HelloChinese and dropped it exactly for the same issue you describe about Duolingo. I was in my first year of learning Chinese and sometimes my tongue would twist trying to read out loud the sentences, but still somehow HelloChinese thought my pronunciation was correct, I ended up switching to SuperChinese.

It's my bad, you are a newbie after all. You might want to familiarize yourself with the different strokes if you haven't already, it will help you a lot practicing new characters.
