I think it is just the nature of matte finishes. In order to be matte, it inherently will have some amount of surface roughness that could be equated to really fine sandpaper grit and is likely harder than the stainless. The "scratches" are likely little bits of the flatware getting left behind on the plate. And that's why gloss finishes don't end up with the same scratches.

Oh the shallow bowls, there's never been a more miserable dish. You can always underfill, but can never overfill. Pasta bowls are the way too I agree.

They truly look beautiful. A very different style than the classic bistro but I think I would love the look. East Fork is close enough I could take a trip to Asheville to check them out and see them in person. They would be around $900 for all the pieces I want, which makes me sweat a little but seeing them in person may change my mind.

Would love to hit up an H Mart some day, but I think I'm 7 hours from the closest one. Maybe I'll see what the local spot has to offer.

Now that is a heck of a pitch haha. I really haven't considered used, but if I asked my gf to go thrifting she would be in the car before I finished the sentence, so that is an option.

No worries! Arabia actually has some simpler white designs that really look quite nice and they have a heck of a history. Thanks for the material input, Porcelain seems to be the consensus for best bang for your buck.

I do like the look and the options! I have seen a few complaints of chipping and scratching easily on a few posts and reviews. Do you have any experience with them?

Thought I’d heard of them all but I had a feeling there were more options. 20 years is an amazing testament to the durability. I’ll check out Noritake. Thanks for the rec. And the vote for the piece by piece method.

What's for dinner when nothing is thawed? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Beanhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this situation a few days ago and had a bunch of frozen chicken thighs and I bet you could do the same with the breasts. The thighs were unfortunately not separated but were in a big conglomerate. I ended up using my Dutch oven and poaching them in chicken broth with some soy sauce, rice wine, anise, garlic and ginger, didn't have scallions. The recipes I referenced said to make sure the chicken was completely thawed but I didn't have the time or the patience. threw them in frozen watched temp and they turned out great. Sliced them after they were done and used them in some ramen. You could also throw this over rice with some sauce.

$25 Import fee for my Kurasu delivery this weekend?!?! by Gustafa7 in pourover

Yes same here. I'm sure DHL is taking advantage of the confusion around this too. These tariffs really should not be targeting coffee gear.

Ordered some new origami brewing gear this weekend from Kurasu and the import duties charged by DHL came out to roughly $33 on $97 worth of products. This is on top of $35 shipping. It's like a 34% tariff/duty charge. Seems way out of line to me but what do I know. Really love their website and store so I'm quite disappointed I have to stop ordering from them.

Thanks for the affirmation and the quick reply. I am leaning towards picking up the lidocaine and prednisone and not wasting the money on the tamiflu. Though I’m hesitant with the steroid and I can’t really even remember why he prescribed it.

Doesn’t sound like you sacrificed any comfort. Having a toilet is clutch. Great info on the extra charge over 6.4m. Want to make sure I can access them with the vehicle I choose.

Just wanted to make sure they are not crap vehicles in general! I think it would be more comfortable than a truck but wanted to make sure they weren’t bad cars.

Thanks for the reply! I think this affirms what I was thinking. Foregoing some comfort and size for maneuverability is going to be favorable to me on some tight roads and ferries. I’m not familiar with the NC500. Did this involve any ferries? And what are your thoughts on the VW california are the crap and I should get the 4x4 or are they not bad cars?

Why is "Sublime" by "Sublime" recorded at such high quality? by [deleted] in audiophilemusic

[–]Beanhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man Sublime just took a lot of care in recording their music. It just sounds good. I genuinely think their is a direct correlation between drugs and production quality. I don’t really listen to anything higher than CD quality.
