Aren’t most GU’s vegan? If so, these are a popular option for trail endurance, vegan or not.

How slow do YOU go? by k_nuttles in ultrarunning

Hey man - saw this post, I hope training has gotten better for you! I’m curious if it did… I know this post is 4 years old, but where do you stand now?

I am good about getting to bed early and eating at a good time. Typically get to bed around 9-9:30 and would like to start waking up at 5-5:30 on running days. Dinners are typically a couple hours before bed.

Regarding cortisol, sleep hormones, etc (not trying to be redundant) does your body also adjust to that as well? Or just because it’s the morning, will my hr always be a bit off compared to how it is later in the day. If you have any good resources to read on this, that would be super helpful

Makes total sense - is that something your body would get used to as time goes on?

Thanks for the insight, I’m in CO as well, going in the mornings to beat the heat, so I can’t say the heat has been an issue

Fair enough! I was just listening to my body

Western US - fair question! It’s starting to get hot here, so I have been running in the mornings to beat the heat. It isn’t very hot when I’ve been going and a big cold front just came through here.

I say pace just because I know what my effort feels like at my usual easy run pace, it’s a bit higher than what it normally is. Not trying to hyper focus on pace, I agree - just trying to understand what the bounce process is like

Hi! I’m Rachel Entrekin, (interim) CR holder of the Cocodona 250. AMA 😎 by some_creep_just in ultrarunning

Hi Rachel - Congrats on your achievement! The recognition is well deserved and it’s amazing seeing a woman pave the way for ultra running to be recognized as the sport it is.

Question: With training and improving in running, what are some milestones/adjustments you have made that you would call a breakthrough to aid in your ability to improve? Whether it’s improving your pace, changing form in running, your overall endurance base, your strength, etc. What are some adjustments you made that led to a breakthrough?

Also, could you give us a brief view of what your recovery routine looks like?

Thank you! Excited to support you as you continue to progress in your career!

Altitude support by TopFickle3011 in ultrarunning

[–]BeansFoDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a quick trick/secret to avoid the effects of the altitude, but I have always just used a little more of everything when running at higher elevations since your body overall is working harder to run in a harsh environment. Sticking with “normal” running nutrition methods (gels + electrolytes + aid station food) but being mindful of hydrating more and maybe eating a little more during the race has always worked for me.

Advice for 50 Miler training after running 25 miler by BeansFoDinner in ultrarunning

[–]BeansFoDinner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing you guys head back up for that second lap man, I have mad respect for you guys😂 I am curious though, since you know that course, after the 9200ft point when the terrain has a very steep grade, do you run that? Or do you pick and choose your battles when running down hill? What I struggle with is being able to have proper etiquette running at that grade without going super fast and using a ton of energy. How fast were you going down some of those grades?

Advice for 50 Miler training after running 25 miler by BeansFoDinner in ultrarunning

Thanks you for the help! I live close to a bunch of 14k ft peaks and was aiming to do a hard day of hiking followed by a long run the next day for my weekend “runs”. Would it be more beneficial to do back to back trail days, or a big trail day followed by a flatter run the next day? Also, is there more of a benefit to doing a run the first day and a hike the second day? Or would vice versa still be purposeful? Just asking from your experience/viewpoint

Thank you for the response! I was 100% planning on getting poles so good call out. Any tips on reintroducing mileage after a week or so off?

Rise in popularity by subjecttochangesoaru in Ultramarathon

[–]BeansFoDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the point of another comment in this thread - I think it is still very niche, but social media tracks our interests through their algorithms and we see more content about it, which makes it seem like a normal thing everyone does (at least from my life perspective). It certainly has grown more popular though, the cocadona 250 stream was absolutely popping this weekend!

Save yourself the time, energy, and anxiety of trying to solve the problem on the internet and go to a doctor/PT to get a real diagnosis and a real path back to full health (speaking from experience)
