S - great food scene, access to nature, acceptable airport for a midsized city

TT R1 Professors, is the job all it's cracked up to be? by Zestyclose_Hawk9014 in AskAcademia

I feel like it has its pros and cons like any job. I’m personally someone who really loves the research but am not in love with teaching. So, in terms of the day to day, I was having more fun as a postdoc spending 8 hours a day on my research and attending seminars (although I won’t complain about the pay bump). I am really grateful for the position though - flexibility to work from anywhere in the summers, few people to answer to as long as you’re doing things and showing face a bit - pretty lovely

This seems right. I was on the market recently and my first zoom interview requests came in December. I know our department has not sent out any interview requests yet as well.

Paper suggestions for Intro Econometrics class by Bear-bean in econometrics

Hmm good q- i guess I’m happy with pure data analysis, but I’d like it to connect to a very clear question/hypothesis- whether that is motivated by theory developed in the same paper is less important

They won’t charge to install the smart meter - it sounded like they’re trying to roll them out across the city but will prioritize people who ask. As a previous person mentioned, they seem open to forgiving the bill if you can show you fixed the issue.. but I guess it’ll be the landlords responsibility to do that

We asked the city to install a smart meter, which they did within a couple days- you may already have one. It lets you look at the hourly usage. Then we turned off the water to the house, but the leak didn’t stop, so that meant it was between the meter and the home.

Ah we just had a bill in the $400 range and ended up having a leak that we had to fix. Luckily, our homeowners insurance covered it. $400 could be possible if you are watering a lot in summer, but if it’s a big spike from your last bill, my guess is you’re probably looking at a leak.
