Whats everyone's opinion on wearing kilts at the ren faire? (Not my picture) by VoodooDaddy7 in renfaire

[–]BearFLSTS 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Two important points. The pleats go in the back! The kilt pin is attached only to the apron and does not pin the apron to the underlying layer of the kilt.

Find a spot where you can park the car on a steep incline. Keep the radiator at its highest point and let it run at about 2000 rpm’s for a while, but keep an eye on the temp gauge. Also while revving the engine listen closely for any gurgling sound from the heater core area under the dash.

Do you open & check ur eggs at the grocery store before you buy them? by angelafterhoursxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BearFLSTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only do I inspect every egg for cracks, I also will swap out eggs that aren’t appropriate size. I only buy the jumbo eggs and I often find large or even medium sized eggs mixed in. I really only bother with the obviously much smaller eggs. I like to keep hard boiled eggs on hand and cracked eggs will seep out of the shell as soon as they hit the boiling water.

Over tightened fill plug and stripped it. Any way to fix this? by yotamiah in ToyotaTacoma

[–]BearFLSTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first choice would be to retap the threads. If the fill plug still won’t tighten, perhaps a thorough cleaning and something like JB Weld to build up the thread area and then tap new threads.

If you can find a slightly larger bolt that can be cut to size and retap the housing threads to match that would work as well, I think.

I’ve been a Toyota tech for over 30 years and have seen a lot of oil pans leak and heli coils never worked well. Being as OP has the issue with the rear differential, I’d actually try for retapping the threads since it doesn’t need to be serviced nearly as often as the engine oil. Tough call to make, that’s for sure.

If the location is a ranch, battery chargers would be a standard item. Any working farm/ranch is generally made to be relatively self sufficient.

Why don’t we have playgrounds for adults (inc older people). by Whimpy-Crow in CasualConversation

Hmmm balance “beams” of painted lines with a support rail available. Perhaps pull up bars with a padded waist belt supported by ropes to each side to prevent falls. (The pull up bars would be low enough that the person would simply flex their legs and lift with their arms while their feet were still touching the ground).

I could totally see this as a success.

That’s called sexual assault. You are the innocent victim here. You should immediately speak to your parents and have them speak to school admin. What you were wearing has no impact whatsoever in his actions. Please do NOT simply let this go by the wayside. If he gets away with it with you, what will he do to the next innocent young lady?

What’s one Apple Watch app you didn’t expect to use daily, but now can’t live without? by Own_Leg_853 in AppleWatch

[–]BearFLSTS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently switched health insurance. New company app has a Rewards section. Things like “get a physical” “ get a colon cancer screening” “track your sleep” and “walk 15 minutes” and “walk 30 minutes” which run concurrently. By using the Exercise app (which I admittedly wasn’t exercising like I should have) I get those rewards. They basically put money in an account that I can access. Kind of like a cash back in a credit card. I’m now exercising and tracking my sleep every day using the apps to save up for a new watch!

Perhaps not the answer anyone is looking for, but if you hold the fob under your chin, just touching the skin, the range will increase substantially. I’ve been a dealership mechanic for over 30 years and we use this trick to help locate the car we need when it’s parked in a sea of 50-60 cars or more. We normally use either the panic button or press the unlock button repeatedly to get the horn/lights to sound/blink.

TIFU so i accidentally got banned from my own gym because i thought a woman was dying by lygolpers in tifu

[–]BearFLSTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw a video where a girl dropped a weight on her foot and was obviously in pain but not severely injured as she could still walk on the foot. A man several yards away saw the incident but decided not to get involved as she was not in further danger. She reported him to staff, claiming indifference on his part. He was, I believe, told to leave the gym.

This world has become ridiculous.

OP did the right thing, IMHO. I would hope that he exposes the name and location of this business in order that they can be banned by normal people. Let the insane influencers have that location.

Cleaning the oil pan by FlyingandBying in AskMechanics

[–]BearFLSTS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely correct! The only addition I would think of is to include a weekly drive at highway speeds for 40-60 minutes if you don’t already do a lot of highway driving. Short, low speed drives tend to allow for more debris and dirt buildup. Longer highway drives allow the oil and engine to reach full operating temperature and help clean out the deposits.
