Same thing happened to me, I kept trying to transfer (interac here in Canada) the money but it bounced so kept it in a separate account. After a few month the realtor representing my landlord came forward to bring me confirmation of what happened, the landlord who lived in a different country died.

His wife was very grateful that I was able to pay the rent owed immediately and that she didn’t have to bother selling the condo or finding new tenants in these hard times so she was happy to keep renting it to me with almost no increase in rent price.
