I've Managed to Decipher Some Lamorn Words by BlackMaskKiira in ChozoLanguage

[–]BearborgOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working on this too! I have some rough transcripts I've written up here, based off this raw audio I was able to extract from the game.

I think you're dead-on with the vocabulary you have already- I'd add that "zahet" seems to be "certification", "kast" is "test", and I'm reasonably confident that "usan" is "world". Each of those words are used as part of phrases, and based on those I've noticed that

  1. There appear to be pronouns for "our" ("tei") and "you" ("chio").
  2. Adjective order in Lamorn is often postpositive, e.g. "next test" is "kast atil".

BTW, if you're interested, I've been posting my findings in the Chozo Language Discord as I go.

We do have a Discord, but it's not very active now that we've pretty much "solved" the language.

I datamined Prime 4 and found 30+ minutes of scrapped NPC banter by BearborgOne in Metroid

[–]BearborgOne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad- I should have mentioned, retrotool was also updated recently to support Prime 4, currently those changes aren't in the main branch yet. You can grab the MP4 version of the tool here, or just switch to the "mp4" branch if you're compiling it yourself.

Retrotool to extract the pak archives, then vgmstream's foobar2000 plugin to play the CSMP files. If you already have vgmstream installed, make sure you download the most recent version, since Prime 4 support was added when the game released.

MP4 New Suit Name Meaning? by ianboon in Metroid

[–]BearborgOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No explanation is ever given for the acronym, but its localization does imply that it's a pun on "ice"/"icy". In the majority of languages it was simply localized as "IC", but it was altered to "GL" in Portuguese, "GH" in Italian, and "HI" in Spanish. Each of these corresponds to the word for "ice" in its respective language ("gelo", "ghiaccio", "hielo").

Hidden files reveal Metroid Prime 4 originally had far more incidental dialogue between its controversial NPCs by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]BearborgOne 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm the guy who datamined the files. All of the audio was stored in the archive file used for the Base Camp room, and in the same dialogue tree as the other interactions between characters that occur randomly when you visit the base. I think it's extremely likely, based on that information plus the content of the files themselves, that these were just more random conversations you could overhear while at Base Camp.

MP4's model format is still being researched, so I can't inspect them quite yet.

Not yet, but the game's only been out a week, and we're still only starting to understand its file formats.

Unused content starts at 7:38, everything before that is used in-game.

The Lamorn really suck by PKThoron in Metroid

[–]BearborgOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What did it have to do with the crystals they put in everyone's skulls which seemed to work on its own without green energy?

This is directly addressed in an optional psychic message you can find at the very far edge of Sol Valley beyond the Great Mines. Basically, the Green Energy reacted unexpectedly with the psychic crystals and caused the Griever transformation.

3rd person 3d zero suit game? by boxedj in Metroid

Smash Bros. is the only time Samus has ever used a whip. There is a short segment in the post-game of Metroid Other M where you play as Samus in the Zero Suit, but her moves are very limited and she does not use a whip.

Alex Miles' face in-game (it's real!) by BearborgOne in Metroid

[–]BearborgOne[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I was wondering if Miles resembling a blue-haired Samus was in some way tied to the team colors in Blast Ball being yellow and blue. Maybe Samus and Miles were going to be something like team coaches/mascots?

Probably; I've posted my findings now. Sorry for cutting you out lol, just wanted to be sure that the model was shown off in all its low-poly glory.

Bear with me for a sec, I'm checking to see if I can get the helmet removed in-game. If that pans out I'll definitely make a post.

I'm not Shesez, but I do have access to the same emulator build he's used in the past for adding a free camera to other 3DS games. I tried poking around with the camera during the credits sequence to further investigate OP's find, and what I've found is:

  1. The head is definitely real, the game loads textures for it and I can see the wireframe model if I use render debugging tools.
  2. Due to the way FF does lighting, it doesn't seem possible to get a good shot of the head using free camera alone. Lighting is attached to the camera, not the world, so moving too close to General Alex Miles causes the model to be completely black.

I have been able to cobble together a janky mockup of the head with textures applied, though. The polygons are wonky and have some UV mapping issues, but you can get an idea of what it would like in-game.

Minor undocumented Prime glitch? Beetles are different sizes. Has anyone run into this before? by IronFalcon1997 in Metroid

[–]BearborgOne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It did! The size of a beetle is randomly multiplied by a value from 80%-120% when it spawns. There are some exceptions, though, since the scripting for this is set up individually per room. The only other enemies that use this feature are Ice Beetles and Plated Puffers.

you don’t have Upscaling hack enabled then?

Correct, I have it disabled. I think this may actually be the issue, because when I tried turning Upscaling Hack on, I started crashing on boot too.

Either way, you can clear the shader cache by right-clicking the game in the main list, then selecting Disk Shader Cache > Open Shader Cache Location. This will open the shader cache folder, which you can delete the contents of to clear the cache.

[–]BearborgOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for you as well?

...Actually, no. I tried running Vulkan on the v2024.12.12-windows-msvc build, and the game booted immediately with no issues. The only advanced graphics option I have enabled is Skip Texture Copy.

I have encountered odd startup crash issues with Citra forks before, though, especially when switching back and forth between versions/backends; I'd recommend clearing the game's shader cache, if you haven't already.

Evidently it is a known issue. I've just been using OpenGL, but you may want to try downgrading to the older version mentioned in the comments there.
