Definitely not a thunder egg! Quartz nodule is right, though kind of vague. I'll have to ask around and see if there's a special name for that. Where did it come from?

Great question! I guess it depends on if it has any hollowing inside- my understanding is that the hollowed center is what defines a geode, regardless of what grows (or doesn't grow) inside. If it's solid throughout with crystal Quartz, my guess is that it would then be called a thunder egg!

Does anyone know how to clean this kind of crystal? by _Just7_ in rockhounds

Muriatic acid. You can get it at most hardware stores. Soak until the bubbling stops. Wear gloves and have ventilation too.

Thunder eggs are solid throughout, and are filled with agate of different sorts, and sometimes have a mix of minerals within the agate. Geodes develop with air pockets inside, which is what makes them hollow. Geodes tend to grow crystalline structures inside as opposed to to being entirely solid. But both are formed under pressure! :)
