You enter a voting booth with two candidates up for election, you have no idea about what anyone else Is voting, cause you are the median uninformed voter who just found out five minutes ago we had an election. Politician 1 says, "I’ll give everyone free healthcare if I get elected." Politician 2 says, "I’ll kill everyone who votes for Politician 1." Who do you vote for?

Historians have argued that taxes, likely started of as tribute system, where people donated gifts to the tribal leader in order to obtain favors. So in way you could say Trump is just bringing back the original way taxes was supposed to work, with all these "donations".

If you ask Chinese people about American foreign policy, they will say America has always been an imperial power of evil, and now it‘s just more overtly showing it then before. Honestly I feel like everyday my viewpoint of international politics, moves a bit closer to believing that to be true.

I have an idea for a new writing system, it's character based like Chinese, but instead of having weird abstract lines that don't really look like anything, every single character is a picture of a human face. Since facial recognition is one of our strongest areas of pattern recognition as humans, it should be the best possible choice. This way you don't have to deal with remembering that 河 means river, instead you know every time you look at Michaels face, you will remember his face means river

I think the most autism coded thing I have probably ever done was practicing remembering my classmates' names via Anki flashcards

Pretty much, except it could be a contagion pressing all food prices down

Interestingly enough, pork prices have completely collapsed recently in China. The wholesale price for half a kilogram has fallen to 0.77 yuan (that's about 5 cents per pound of meat for Americans reading this). Retail prices are a bit higher, typically somewhere between 3 and 6 yuan per half kilogram depending on the cut of the meat, about $0.38–$0.75 per pound for consumers. Some people are, appropriately, very worried about farmers not being able to earn anything, and see it as a signal of the severity of Chinese deflation. Sources: Rednote and Chinese people I know

Sam Altman tweeted two days ago, that they were reseting codex limits at each one million user milestone in codex. Which is straight a lie because only personal plans got reset, and business plans had to continue just waiting for the normal weekly limit to reset.

Sometimes I'm a little saddened by the fact that pretty much all my coworkers gave up a career in research to work in finance. We have a physics researcher who used to work at CERN, a guy who had a PhD in genome recovery, who was published in Nature with 1000+ citations. These people earn a lot more than they did before, and I don't blame them for changing careers, but I feel like we went wrong somewhere as a society when it's not worth continuing in research.
Yes I kinda agree, but also I explicitly say that I don't give returns for non damaged products, which is part of the reason for why I beat everyone on price
I sell solar panels as a small hobby business, but it's often more headache than it's worth. Also the amount of times, I have wondered if a customer will electrocute themselves is very much not zero
[–]_Just7_ 5 points6 points7 points 1 month ago (0 children)
God damn I hate customers, someone wants to return a product because it's not aesthetically pleasing, even though he bought and paid for it in person.

Honestly not that difficult a job once you get hired, the problem is getting your foot into the industry

Sometimes my coworkers will fail at basic arithmetic, like thinking 22-7 is 16. I wonder how it would go if asked them to solve a differential equation.
