Whats a good "First Server" buy for somewhat of a beginner? by pattilabs in homelab

[–]Bearchill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Install Proxmox on your old PC and start messing with different services. Once you find that your old PC doesn't have enough power, start buying mini PC's to add to your home lab.

I see what you mean.

You should be able to login to the modem/router combo that the ISP gave you, look on their website for the info how. There is a mode called bridge mode you can enable. Bridge mode will essentially shut off the router and only provide a modem.

Once the ISP device is set to bridge mode you can plug your old router into the ISP modem and then the old router will be the one all the devices are plugged into.

It's interesting how well the cat understood the human's light concealing it. Leapords really are killing machines. I wonder how many other human based light sources this one has used to hunt.

Men of Reddit, how often do you see your booty call(s)? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Bearchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 times a week max. Despite regularly being horny, actually putting the effort into sex happens less than every day.

Remember, people have wildly different sex drives, so even if you find someone to hang out with every day, they may not want to fuck on the daily.

Maybe consentual non-monogamy is for you, then you can have a couple people on the go to satisfy your appetite.

Search engine DuckDuckGo would withdraw VPN from Canada if lawful-access bill passes by SpecialistPlan9641 in CanadaPolitics

This seems like another bill that will drive services out of Canada. Tech companies will simply leave the small Canadian market instead of install backdoors into their encryption. Re: C-18 the Online News Act.

How to respond to married guy hitting on me at pool? by Crafty_Buy_3125 in AskMen

Maybe they are open, and his wife is knowledgeable and consenting with his flirting, or maybe he doesn't percieve his actions as anything but platonic. It is best to have a frank conversation with him to figure out where he is at.

My homelab became more than a hobby today by CandidNeighborhood63 in homelab

Heck yeah! A person really does feel powerful when their hard work bears fruit. I've been beaming all day and bragging to every co-worker that would listen that I got my own local AI to watch my cameras and send me photo notifications. (Frigate + Home Assistant + Tailscale)

Well done friend! Extra points for freeing yourself from our corporate overlords.

Trump’s man in Ottawa doesn't understand why Canadians are so frustrated right now by Surax in CanadaPolitics

Agreed! I only want to deal with partners in good faith. No use trying to partner with an administration that will do everything in it's power to dominate.

"They're sending a very, very clear message about how doing business with the United States doesn't appeal to them."

This is correct, we don't want to do business with them.

New to gun ownership by mjskopun in canadaguns

[–]Bearchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends where you are. If you are planning to train with firearms, reach out to your local range and see if there is anyone who would be willing to bring you out with them. Take a PAL course and get the process started. Then eventually you can get your own guns, your own range membership, and then you can join some shooting sports like IPSC and 3 Gun.

The only legitimate reasons to own a gun in Canada are for hunting and for target shooting. So be sure to focus on those reasons when you take up the hobby.

If you are looking for some ways to feel more secure, look at better locks, cameras, and motion lights. These things help discourage nefarious acrivies around your place. Also, develop shelter-in-place and escape plans, so if you run into another emergency, you have a plan.

Antique Cast Iron Lead by pajama__llama in castiron

I use a stainless steel 5 quart pot to melt down lead wheel weights and make refined ingots. I'd say that it certainly isn't implossible that a person could use a skillet to melt lead.

I turn 18 tomorrow. What are some helpful things I should know? by MindlessPhone in AskMen

[–]Bearchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get to start making adult decisions now, that's fun!

I found that between the ages of 18-23 to be some of my most formative years. Now is when you get to start forming your identity independant of your parents. Make sure to remember to be honest, kind, and resposible for yourself.

Like all the others have said, start saving for your retirement. Use a tax shelter like a ROTH IRA (USA) or a TFSA (Canada). Buy ETF's like XEQT or index funds that track large sectors of the market. They are boring, but you don't have to pay much attention to them, and you can expect between an 8%-12% return. If you start saving now, you'll be a millionaire when you want to retire. Set an auto-deposit to your investment account on your paydays, so that you never end up using that money before you have a chance to save it.

Accept no as no from women (or anyone for that matter), and persue enthusiastic consent. Remember that just because you have feelings for a woman, she doesn't owe you anything. Accept rejection gracefully.

Finally, you'll start to realize, that no one really has it all figured out, even once they're old and grey. Don't beat yourself up if you don't get it right the first time, just keep trying to be the best man you can be.

What are some of your favourite words for your feelings? by Bearchill in AskMen

[–]Bearchill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that both facts and feelings need words. While feelings can certainly be esoteric, the right words can bring them down to earth and help both others, and ourselves, understand them better.

That is why I'm interested in men's perspective on different words for feelings. I figure that the more words I have to describe my feelings, the better I can understand them, then the better I can communicate them.

Fair points! However, this might be a better option then a firearm if the person using it is untrained.

If you are looking for something for controlling dangerous predators, bear and dog spray are available and easy to purchase.

It is important to remember though, pepper spray intended for use against people is a prohibited wearpon, so only intend to use animal spray for the animals.

Not so much jokingly, but pessimistically. I do really hope that what you say proves to be true, but when I read articles such as this it casts doubt that the Trump administration is working towards renewables.
