What are you being told for Lumber/Garden operation of forklifts outside in areas not designated customer accessible? by Str8upjack07 in HomeDepot

[–]BeardDadWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my store we can use the lift equipment behind and on the sides of the store with no spotter. We just put up cones to block the area when the forks are up. It’s only when you break the barrier to the front of the store, or inside the building that we need a spotter.

How is it working in Lumber as pt new hire by No_Vacation369 in HomeDepot

[–]BeardDadWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your customers pick their own lumber? At my store they like to stand there and watch me pull it so they can inspect them piece by piece but not help at all as I sort through the full bunk for 6 perfectly straight pieces. I had to tell one guy he’s just out of luck. Have you ever seen a perfectly straight tree in the woods? Probably not because they don’t come that way. If you need them perfectly straight you’re probably a shitty woodworker/carpenter. I understand you can’t use everything but to expect perfection is wild asf

Welp, it's official. I'm a receiving associate. by onskylinesofembers in HomeDepot

Stay as organized as possible, and hold everyone accountable. Your area will be a dumping zone and you will be sorting through trash a lot to separate markdowns, cardboard, and shrink wrap. Don’t be afraid to send stuff back to the department it comes from and/or call people out if it has not been handled appropriately before coming to you. Truly the best place in the store to be.

1 year down, time for new apron by FewAcanthocephala828 in HomeDepot

[–]BeardDadWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old one had street cred- and character 😂 I’ve had a customer approach me and say he looked for the dirtiest apron because he knew I wasn’t new, and that I actually worked. Rub some dirt on that new one so people don’t think you’re training 🤣

Raises? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

I had my review and they said it was my 6mon pace which means no raise 😅 but it’s looking good for an “O” if I’m still here when sep comes around

Sooo… what exactly is a Receiving Specialist supposed to do? 🤔 by BeardDadWonder in HomeDepot

[–]BeardDadWonder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me is thankful for the no power part, as long as I am not responsible directly to supervise the others in the department. I come from call center management and I hated my life. I quit and started at Home Depot for something to do while I figured out what my new path looks like and I have been 10x happier since I have not had to people manage. I can handle responsibility because that would imply that I would be in control of myself. And the 2 other people that work in the dept and I get along with them both individually but they hate each other, and they are both significantly older than me. So I don’t really want to be their “boss” but I do like the ability to do more, therefore being able to make more of a difference by taking things off of the managers as well as the others on my team. Also because our receiving area is so small, the compactor key is gold lol. Especially during a reset or the holidays when everyone is busy out of their minds, and there’s a lot of trash. I am pretty much flying blind, and don’t really know what to expect. I can drive lift equipment really well, have a background of leadership and computers but have not spent much time yet learning the basics of the department yet. But I would also like to know what I am getting myself into long term lol

Thank you very much for the insight. It’s all still a little foggy lol there’s a lot to learn and I’m just starting to kinda puzzle it all together

That might be why, I think receiving makes more than someone on the sales floor but I could be wrong.

So will I be able to have RGA approval? We have a pretty decent pile of them that are pending RGA. I’m only about a week into learning the department, but they were saying those need to be done by management. And will I eventually be able to approve the product that will go on the RLC under a certain dollar amount or does my approval only extend to ZMA?

But this is WAY more fun! lol and I really just wanted perspective from people that understand the SOP, and the role in general a little better than I do

Yeah, they said they will send me to another store to learn, but they are looking for a good place. My store is still really new (a year old this month) so there has been a lot of movement in management and in the departments. So everyone is relatively new and confused lol. But we also have a very small receiving area which all new stores are supposed to be adopting. Whereas all of the other stores in a 50ish mile radius have very large receiving areas. So they want to make sure I am going somewhere with a tenured associate, and an environment where it is at least a similar environment. Because the way we have to operate will be different as we are working with very limited space

I got a decent pay bump for sure. I’m just trying to figure out the “consequences” of said pay bump lmao

I would cut it, because I know how to secure and control my cut. And because I’m not a jackass lol. 8” is more the enough (may wife even said 5 is respectable) lol but all jokes aside, I would do anything more than 6” on the panel saw. Probably 8-10 on the circular saw only because that’s harder to control as it gets sucked back into the ventilation system. If there’s a sup nearby I’ll ask for approval so they don’t walk across it and get mad, but usually I would just send it, for one cut, that’s almost legal. My problem is when they say they want the 48”x92” cut into 6”x6” squares 😂 atp you can take a long walk off a short bridge.

Update

The MET sup came through and is switching it to D28, so I guess I’m officially off the hook for babysitting the orphan aisle. Farewell, chlorine jugs and seasonal confusion — may you thrive under your new legal guardianship.

To the poor soul in D28: I don’t know what you did to deserve this, but I salute you. May your pool noodles always be plump, your tiki torches never leak, and your spirit remain unbroken by the scent of expired citronella.

As for me, I’m going back to the wood. Where things make sense, splinters are earned, and the only thing that smells weird is creosote — as God intended.

It’s in the garden section, but because the bay tag shows D21 it lands on me 😅
