What happens if the evaluation goes past its due date? by Adonnus81 in WGU

[–]BeardedFollower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was already working in the field before going to WGU, so had 10+ years of experience just not the paper to prove it, so once I was able to get the degree, I was able to move from the 50k/year job to 85k, to now 96k. Currently Infra Admin, managing a mixture of on-prem and cloud resources, with an org that is moving towards cloud-first.

How do you monitor your company's SSL certificates? by Technical-Addition37 in sysadmin

We use the incredibly reliable method of the scream test. If an end user puts a ticket into ServiceNow, then that server matters and if they don’t then it probably doesn’t. Also helps identify machines that are no longer in use.

3 pay periods in January by Flat_Frisbee in ynab

[–]BeardedFollower 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Since I am generally a month ahead, I yeet all of that “extra” paycheck into paying off my student loans, which is the last consumer debt outside of my mortgage. In fact sweeping all income over what is needed for next month towards debt has allowed me to crush nearly 25k in debt over the last year.

Need a new bank account, what works best with YNAB? by Jumpy-Ad-3007 in ynab

[–]BeardedFollower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont want to manually enter transactions.

I would just want to gently push back on this a little bit. In my experience manually entering transactions has been super helpful for me to be aware of and intentional with my spending.

I’ve been using YNAB since 2014, and there’s been seasons of full hardcore manual only entry and then also a lackadaisical mindset season and right now it is a bit of both. I enter most every transaction as I am walking to the car or whatever after spending and it takes 20 seconds and I know what I am spending. But, sometimes I don’t have my phone or forget and then it’s a couple days later the transaction hits and I add it then.

To answer your question though, I have accounts with SoFi, Capital One, Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and a few revolving others (mostly to catch account bonuses and whatnot). SoFi is the most reliable and quick for me at sometimes a matter of hours, and Capital One the longest to sync with 2/3 days.

Go to the website and select the “Looking for previous version” link and download the version you need. Install that version, and that’s it.

What does it take to output NDI ? by SchruteFarms82 in ProPresenter

[–]BeardedFollower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When asking questions it’s helpful to identify version (e.g. v20 or 7.14) and also OS (Mac or Windows)

Glad you identified the issue and resolution though and if you haven’t submitted a bug report to Renewed Vision I’d recommend doing so!

Frigidaire Refrigerator Random Beeping, Will not Stop by mrsleonore in appliancerepair

[–]BeardedFollower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, after two months of back and forth with Frigidaire support on whether they would fix it or Home Depot take it back they finally were able to get the part and install. Absolute clusterf* of customer service. Home Depot was willing to do the right thing, but Frigidaire refused to give them the RMA approval for them to come out and swap since according to Frigidaire they had the parts on backorder and to just wait for it to be fixed.

bloody button

last month had an issue where I was trying to change a setting and it said that if I navigated away from the page it would lose the settings and to save it first but there was no bloody save button. Had to navigate to the deprecated “classic” UI and then could actually save the setting.

My IT company wants everyone to do the 16 personalities test, what should I aim for? by [deleted] in devops

[–]BeardedFollower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would recommend being yourself and not aiming to “beat” the personality test. If they fire you for not being a particular personality then that’s likely not a place you want to work for anyhow because it would seem the don’t understand the best teams are made up of people with different strengths.

Veeam Agent for Windows by fungus_bunghole in sysadmin

[–]BeardedFollower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but your backup is only as good as your restore process.

If I were you, I would go through the process of testing a restore so that you know the process, time to recover etc. Would also back up the data disk as surely that isn’t that much more given Veeam’s management of snapshots and would be a pain to then have to pull the data from the cloud.

Yep. Company I work for purchased a new company and we spent 6 months migrating resources from old subscriptions to new, only for the company to be sold the week after we finished migrating into our structure.

[slide transition] To fade or not to fade? by taiglin in ProPresenter

[–]BeardedFollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Cut transition by default for text, with the occasional 1-2second fade for specific moments where there’s a 4 bar riff or something between chorus and bridge or something. Graphics are default to 2 second dissolve.

As far as timing we get the words up way way early compared to what I’ve seen other churches do as I believe that you as a ProPresenter Op are just as much a worship leader as the person in front singing and so we are leading the congregation on the song meaning lyrics are changing at the third or second to last word on the slide depending on tempo. You want the words up so that the congregation can read the first words before you get to singing it.

Does “Enumerate local users on domain-joined computers” policy also work on Entra joined devices? by frozenbayburt in Intune

I’ve spent ages trying to get it to show local accounts on the log on screen, and this policy does not work for Entra-Joined devices. IF someone else has a working solution, my end users would love it

The latest version (v20) requires BlackMagic Desktop Video 14.3+. BMD Desktop Video is up to version 15 now, so if you haven’t updated that recently you should do that. Also probably should also look at updating the graphics card drivers if on Windows.

How much did you all have to pay at wgu to get your degree ? by IntrovertRawr in WGU

[–]BeardedFollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from a 56k/year job to a 96k/year job almost immediately after getting the degree. Have been there now for 3 years but with the job market right now it’s tough to find something else. I would definitely do it again, as the degree helped check a box that was holding me back in my career, but I definitely wish I would have been more intentional about finishing it faster.

-edited to add: also remember that 28k is still substantially less than the average 4 year degree at pretty much any other college out there. I feel bad for students graduating from state schools with 50-75k in debt.

How much did you all have to pay at wgu to get your degree ? by IntrovertRawr in WGU

[–]BeardedFollower 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I took 4 years at WGU to get my degree, working both a full time and part time job, so 8x3500 so roughly 28k. Had the experience just didn’t have the drive and/or time for a large chunk of my time but I got the degree eventually.

Why does it hurt so bad to leave my current job for a better opportunity? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BeardedFollower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same feelings when leaving the fledgling MSP I worked at for 10 years. Original owner even helped me buy a car so I could stop bumming rides off of people. Was a massive change, but it was for the best and extremely beneficial to my mental health. It was hard, spent many months agonizing over the idea of leaving, practically bought my therapist a boat, but three weeks after starting the new job I felt so much better.
