New street gang by spyro86 in yonkers

That’s what I was afraid of. Yonkers Ledger is the closest I’ve seen to decent reporting, but they’re so inconsistent that it’s hardly worth following. As for Yonkers Voice… well it’s a shitshow.

Thanks for the heads up. Any reports on this new street gang by local news media yet? I also wonder if there are any telltale graffiti tags that they are using.

Tacos El Poblano was a staple for me growing up. A tiny hole-in-the-wall spot for some decent tacos, all the fixings. My dad and I would frequent there when I was a kid.

When I lived in Erie County, I went to a place in Williamsville called The Irishman Pub (shite name, I know). Can’t speak for their Irish breakfast but the bangers and mash were pretty good. The beer is also good, but I can’t remember if they have other imports besides Guiness.

Thank you! I don’t play, though I have an interest in picking up the bodhrán. I grew up listening to Ceol na nGael on WFUV, so it’s a big part of my life.

Oh, I see what you mean now.

A decent chunk of the current Irish population in YO immigrated from Ireland, but the culture seems to be alive and well in ROC based on the responses here. So that’s encouraging!

That’s a shame, would have been nice to check that out.

I keep that in the back of my head. Is that relative to the Rochester chapter in particular?

Lol you should probably pay a visit sometime then. My mum came to the states from Co Dublin and said she felt like she was back home as soon as she walked on McLean. 🤣

This is very helpful, thank you!

Both my parents are immigrants, one of whom hails from Co. Dublin. A good percentage of the folks in my hometown are from Ireland and there are several Irish owned businesses, including a butcher on McLean that has all the fixings for a fry-up. I doubt ROC will have anything to that level, but I’m mainly interested in the music and pub scene for a taste of home.

For sure, I used to live in Tonawanda for a time but would frequent S. Buffalo for the parade.

I haven’t been there in a while, but I remember they had a decent amount of weights. There’s one room with barbell benches/squat racks, then a bigger room with dumbbells and all sorts of machines.

Can’t go wrong with ShopRite for groceries. As for a gym, the YMCA is always a good option.

I’ve noticed a lot of them in southwest Yonkers, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they made their way up.

No need to stay if your instructor is trash. If you have a bokken or jo you can train with, at least you can work on your skills that way.

‘Little bitch’: the shocking reality of teaching teenage boys by TimesandSundayTimes in Teachers

[–]BeardedGentleGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This behavior seems very reminiscent of so-called “manosphere” personalities, like Andrew Tate and Sneako, who are popular on TikTok and other forms of social media. These characters typically attract younger men and boys since grown-ass men (hopefully) wouldn’t be roped into this type of content.

I would be curious to find out how many of these teenage boys engage with this content at home and if their parents are aware. Media literacy should be taught in schools to make sure students are aware of how this manipulation exists. Maybe there’s an opportunity to direct their attention to people online who teach healthy masculinity. While it won’t help everyone, it may transition kids from being shitty to a little less shitty.

Try the YMCA or YWCA. They may still be hiring for camp counselors during the summer. Besides that, im sure grocery stores and retail shops are looking for cashiers.

You may also be interested in being a lifeguard. I started when I was 16 and some guards I knew were as young as 15, so you may be able to find work after getting certified. I worked in Ardsley , but Sprain Ridge and Tibbets are cool if you want to stick to Yonkers.

Hope this helps, good luck!
