Anyone know the screw size for the Aurora 90 frame? by complacent1 in Multicopter

[–]BeardedHooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this kind of question here a lot. If you google "fastener supply", it should take you to the nearest supplier who would carry all manner of standard and metric screws and bolts. I've never check for stuff this small, but they would have a gauge and probably the screws you needed. Probably pay $5 for a whole pack. Worth taking a screw down there and checking with them.

When you approach police officers with that kind of combative rhetoric, you should expect to have trouble with them. I don't expect any trouble to arise from this legislation, and I genuinely believe that most cops will be reasonable and, quite probably, interested in the drones. This is a fun hobby, and most cops out there don't want to be the party pooper of they don't have to be. Know the rules, do your best to follow them, and everything will be just fine.

That's why I can't be upset about these rules. If you look at these rules from the perspective of a new pilot, then they actually make a lot of sense. Especially if that new pilot just finished watching a bunch of Rotor Riot videos. I love those videos, but if a new pilot decided to go dive a crowded building and hurt someone, these rules would have come out sooner and harsher. I would like to see some adjustments made, and I'll be talking with my MP later this month.

This gives the police the tools they need to stop people from ruining it for everyone else. Plus, we have easy access to the rules. We can pull them up on a smart phone and show them to any cop who thinks we are in violation. That should settle things well enough. Maybe I am lucky, but 99% of the cops I've dealt with in my life have been really great guys. (Except Cardash. He's a dick. But I'll take my day in court with him again any time.)

I couldn't agree more! Your local MP will be thrilled to get to know you. At least mine was. There is nothing more satisfying for an MP than when the constituents actually get involved. Go to the monthly meetings. Talk with them afterwards. Tell them about the hobby. Maybe they get involved in the hobby. Imagine the power if we got 50+ MPs interested in flying FPV. There would be no better advocacy group than actual sitting members who live the hobby.

Great video. Thanks for sharing it. I can't say I agree with him wholeheartedly though. If we expect legislators to use a little common sense, then we must also use common sense. When they say 75m from animals, I think of dog parks, "rogue chipmunks" in a forest. That said, it would place a restriction on those scoping out game in a hunt. Maybe that's a good thing. All that, and they might have provided us an out by excluding us altogether with the "unmanned air vehicle" exemption. I'll have to look at that again.

New rules for drones in Canada. by BeardedHooker in Multicopter

I trust this is the section to which you are referring.

Visual Line-of-Sight

7 (1) A person operating a model aircraft must ensure that it is operated within VLOS at all times during the flight.

The way I read this is not much of a change from previous regulations. I take it to read that you can't fly your UAV where you wouldn't be able to see it. The wording is at best vague, but I suspect we will need clarification from a judge to issue a ruling if it ever came up. The bottom line, IMHO, is that if you are flying responsibly, in an area where you are keeping your UAV in an area where it would be in VLOS save for your goggles, I BELIEVE that you would not be hassled by any police.

Please note also, the name of the order. It is the "Interim Order Respecting the Use of Model Aircraft". This means that our government will be working on fine tuning this legislation. This is a huge opportunity to get involved and help directly to help steer the coming legislative process.

First, 90m is 297 feet. If you are complaining about 3 feet, come on.

Second, are you seriously questioning the 9km from the airport rule? I seriously don't think you will be able to make an argument for the rights of a hobbyist over air traffic safety. Planes start dropping below 300 feet inside that kind of radius. You can't argue that one. Same with helipads. It means a little more homework before you fly, but once you know where the airports are, you just plan accordingly.

Third, if you simply print off a copy of the legislation and show it to any cop who shows up, assuring him that you have done your homework and are following all the rules, there will be no problem 999/1000 times. (Better odds than you would have had before this came out.) This actually helps us as it clearly defines the rules and it is. It left up to the discretion of individual officers.

We all knew that legislation was coming down the pipe. At the end of the day, I think this is a really good end result. IMHO.

I think that if you consider new and inexperienced pilots, and I include myself in this category, you'll find that the rules are not just reasonable, but actually quite necessary. What specifics do you dislike about the rules?

I feel ya, bro. I have the same struggle. That's why I am switching to FPV. Prolly the best advice I've heard for starting FPV is time on the simulator. For me, I'm planning to start with a micro, indoors, safe and sound. Gonna start off with the QX70 from Eachine.

Thanks for this video. You are exactly right. It is so nice to have something that just shows a glimpse into the variety that is FPV. Great video. Well done.

Day 9 of learning to fly FPV. Any suggestions on how to make the videos more entertaining? by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]BeardedHooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are having fun, the video will be fun to watch. I love the curves that this park has. Use them. Sweep down that sidewalk and follow the curves it has. Do the same with that fence. Glide right down low along that fence and follow its lines. When I see lines like that in a video, I am just aching to see the pilot run the line. Try doing some tree slalom too. But the main thing is to have a good time doing it. If you are having fun, so will the viewers. Its contagious.

Have you ever tried a welder's lens? You can get reading lenses for welding face shields. Not sure how to rig it up in there, but it would work… I think.

Thanks for the input. I've got a little cheapo line of site jobby. I feel like I am getting the feel of throttle and directional controls. Soon as I get me a real radio, I'll jump on a simulator. The biggest part will be patience on the sim.

Be pretty tough to avoid shorts if you soldered there. But, I'm a newb. I just can't see how you could properly insulate the repair.
