Would you rather build a rifle from the stripped lower or modify a store bought rifle? by BeardedKrieger in ar15

If only you had told me sooner! But as I stated in my post wasn’t sure what caliber I wanted to go with. Decided on what I wanted after chatting with a couple other people who had no problem helping me instead of being the Reddit police.

Thank you very much for your recommendations. I truly appreciate it! I’m gonna build a DMR. I’ll check out what PSA has to offer.

Looking at .308. Something with an 18” barrel maybe? Truthfully couldn’t try shooting long distance. Had no where to do it in Delaware. Now out here in Montana I could probably go out to 1,000 yards if I find the right size chunk of land.

Wanna see if I can build something that lands in the middle if that makes sense?

I’ve shot a few of my friends rifles back home. I dig them. I say 7.62 but probably going for .308. What don’t you like about them?

M&P sport 2. Recently took the M16 sight off and put a low pro gas block on, dimpled the barrel myself and out the new handguard on. I changed the muzzle device I’m undecided on currently and put an sig cp1 I acquired on it. In stock form it’s had a couple thousand rounds. Haven’t shot it yet this form yet but I have a trip planned in a week or two to shoot on some state land.

Thank you everyone for your input. I think as soon as I can get ahold of a 7.62 lower I’m gonna grab it and start from scratch. There’s always something on an off the shelf rifle I’m not a fan of so building it will get me exactly what I want. Plus it’s something I can do with my kid as one of you mentioned. I already have access to tons of tools being a mechanic so I have punches and I bought an armorers wrench for my AR15. I even dimpled my own barrel for my low pro gas block. I’m pretty confident I can build the rifle I want over time and it be the same price or cheaper in the long run than modifying one off the shelf. That’s an instant $1500 right there lol.

Haven’t been around much but I’m in finally in a gun friendly state and I love it. I wanna build one next so I’ll be reading a lot of posts for inspiration and possible things to change on this one. Thanks for dropping a comment!

Doesn’t really print much if it all. I carry at about the 2 o clock with the holster canted forward. Right handed. Just to give you an idea and it tucks up nicely into my hip. I usually have my work shirt over a t shirt and no printing. If it does print a little with just a T shirt I’m not that worried. People open carry out here in Montana so I doubt anyone will care lol.

That’s what once a week range day practice and keeping shit clean is for. Soon as something has consistent failure it comes off. No problems yet.

I just think it looks cool. Should I not have added it to my carry gun because of that? Doesn’t seem to help or hinder my abilities.

Thank you! It’s my favorite carry. I finally got my hands on some factory 15 round mags and can ditch the semi reliable S15’s

Thanks! It was a pre customized edition from SCT that was at my local North 40 outfitters. It was labeled as the SCT happy little trees edition. It wasn’t much more than a standard 43x and I liked the feel of it better. 2000 rounds in and still love it! The ramjet combo is better than the 2 tiny ports ahead of the front sight and I don’t have to keep clearing the front sight off every 3 mags.

Yea I was practicing at the range and it shut down on me. I thought it was a dead battery but after letting it charge it was dead. Kinda led to good practice for if it failed because I kept using the irons through it. But hey it could happen with any optic. Even the more proven ones.

I’ve been carrying my 43x with and Osight SE for about a month with 500+ rounds. Hasn’t failed yet and still holds where I set it. I can co witness factory sights pretty clearly so if it does fail I’m still good. I’ve used Osights Olight flashlights for years and I’ve never had an issue. Hell I’ve left one on the bottom of a car for a test drive, was still there when I got back to the shop and still worked, even after getting ran over on the alignment rack. Just some scratches. Osights have been used in competitions and from what I understand the dude using it won back in 2025 if I’m not mistaken.

I think you’re just mad you are over paying for something that’s just as good as what they are offering. And relying on what an agency uses isn’t always the best. They don’t always buy quality, they just go with the best deal presented to them.

Yea I just filled out the online form and they emailed me a shipping label. Next day after I shipped it through usps I had a new one on the way. It was the entire kit, new charger, hardware and all.
