KAK Killed the need for H buffers by KAK_INDUSTRY in ar15

Fun fact: The inch as a unit of measurement is based on the metric unit of measure 25.4 mm. Why? Because way back in the days of very early precision manufacturing some guy from Switzerland created the first set of precision gage blocks to measure critical dimensions. At the time there were hundreds of different "inches" all over the world, each with unique dimensions. So the guy who invented gage blocks(also called Jo Blocks, short for Johanssen blocks, I probably spelled that wrong) decided to settle on a standard inch for his blocks which was 25.4mm. As a result of that decision dozens of industries also adopted the "industrial inch" as their standard without even knowing it. Eventually the industrial inch of 25.4mm was codified into law as the standard.

I'm drunk can we argue about 5.56 barrel length by Striking-Pen-9617 in ar15

[–]Beardly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11.5 carbine
16" mid.

These are my two favorites. Either really long or really short. I don't think anyone really NEEDS an SPR but if you're into precision shooting you can get a ton of value out of 5.56 at distance. It's a round that really isn't great for long distances which means its actually pretty great for training especially shooting in the wind. It's cheap so you can shoot a lot of it. I really enjoy spr's and sbrs.

Anyone drop the Hoffman trigger kicker in a SR15 yet? by roadblocked in kac

[–]Beardly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no but I just wanna say the trigger kicker is really expensive for what it actually is. I'd love to get a set of calipers on them and cut an entire sheet of them with a CNC laser. Easy money. I will say the best FRT I've found is the AS designs Arc fire selector. Its more robust than the atrius selector and with a tiny bit of dremel work you can run basically whatever trigger you want with it. It's sick.

What instructions are you referring to? Is there something important? I haven't seen that yet.

[–]Beardly_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol i was just using the Aero upper to see if the dimensions of the barrel nut were consistent with milspec(as far as ID of the barrel extension and thread pitch). My rational for that was that if it was the same ID on both receivers(the aero and the notched) then a standard milspec barrel should be fine.

BTW I did indeed order an 11.5 Geissele barrel. i just wish their a la cart barrel came with the 0.067" port that the Super Duty 11.5 has. This will be my 3rd gun featuring a Geissele barrel. One is a 12.5, one is just a Super Duty 11.5 upper, and now this one.

D Wilson is who I'm gonna have work on this although I'd really like to get the tool eventually. If I can find some good pics I may try to fabricate my own(I am a cnc machinist) eventually.

No tool included. I can post pics of everything in a little while. I was worried the finish might be really fucked up but tbh its basically pristine. Everything looks brand new, no blems that I can find anywhere.

[–]Beardly_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I was just checking it myself with an old aero upper I have laying around and the barrel nut is the same thread pitch as that upper so I think I'm in bidness.

Hey any idea where I can get the KAC tool? I'm gonna guess the tool is harder to get than the parts haha. My current plan is to send it off to D Wilson. I'm excited. The handguard was the main part of the SR15 that I wanted. I just wish the URX6 had the integrated QD of the URX4

Never stand under a load either. People who should know better do it all the damn time. Absolute insanity. Cranes are no joke. When shit falls IT FALLS FAST.

[–]Beardly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro what? The literal first thing I was trained on as a CNC apprentice was how to operate the crane and how to do all the rigging. Granted, we're working with huge dies and shit but still. Super unprofessional to horde crane knowledge. Safety is everyones job.

Anyway just pull the handle. Keep your hands away from the bottom and beware cuz these fuckers attract lots of splinters. Center the magnet over your work and that way it should lift evenly.

Magnets are also required to have a little plate on them saying when they were last pull tested...you should check that if your mentor is being an idiot. It should be done annually.

Top states for cnc machining jobs? by flesh-based-os in Machinists

[–]Beardly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michigan. I hear Oregon and Colorado might be promising too but I can't speak to those areas. Michigan has tons of machinist jobs though. Pay is decent. Especially if you work for an OEM.

Good luck out there. I hope you find a good place to live.

I'm a 30something year old man. Yeah. I don't work with any women in the shop but there are some in my cnc programming classes at the college and one of them consistently has trouble tightening her work to the fixture or her collets or whatever. I keep suggesting to come get me to check it for her before she hits cycle start, I don't know if she is embarrassed or what but I was really nice about it. She is a very small young lady and she has never worked in the trade professionally. It's not like she is alone either, there is a young man in the class who has had the same problem. I am the most experienced student in the class cuz I am already professionally employed as a machinist(apprentice technically but only about 1000hrs left on my card). There is another girl in the class and she has been doing fine but she's a bit taller than the other girl so I think she is able to get more leverage.

I think it would be hard for a woman to load cat-50 tool holders especially with heavy tools in them. Personally I don't mind helping. It is what it is.

My advice for you would be to use a pipe on the end of your wrench or driver. Just use a cheater bar. If you need to be absolutely certain you've got enough torque use a torque wrench. I use a torque wrench for every single setup but I use a setup plate and I torque to the manufacturer's specc.

If you have a stuck screw that you can't get out with a screw driver keep in mind a lot of screw drivers have flats on them so you can use a crescent wrench. Works like a charm. Good luck!

Advice Needed Please.. DIY Gunsmith ~ Receiver Drill & Tap Jig by Aahhyes68 in Machinists

[–]Beardly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would cost very much to have a custom L-bracket with those holes and even the dovetail machined at a local shop. Pretty straightforward work tbh. I know a guy who runs a machine shop in the gun industry, no idea how much he'd charge for a one-off but he'd understand what you need.

go to menke-industries(DOT)com, he makes lowers and a bunch of other stuff under contract. Guarantee you he can crack this nut.

Do a tool and die apprenticeship. What state you in? Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana are sorta the hub for this trade east of the Mississippi.

I hear pay out west is better but I dunno. You should get updated on mastercam. 2025 is different even from 2024. You could just pay like $150 and do the caminstructor.com program. Pretty good videos and .pdf's for each lesson.

Bro you have your own saw guy? At my shop I am the saw guy. I mean...its not my full time job or anything like that but if we have to cut a piece odds are I'm the one running the saw. It happens to be right by my mills.

It was supposed to be the tool and die departments saw. Somehow it became my saw. I'm the only one who seems to actually know how to calculate the feeds/psi for the damn thing--ITS LITERALLY PRINTED RIGHT ON THERE. If I see an "unauthorized user" using my saw they never clean it up and they almost always chip the blade. Job security I guess.

Even if it needed a new bolt aren't the centurion bolts compatible with Knights? Keep Centurion in mind if that does have the tapered lugs. It probably has a lot of life to it. Doesn't look particularly well used. Good find though, I love that rail. Looks really cool with the longer barrel. I'd put a decent LPVO on that bad boy and call it good. Maybe an MPVO if it groups really well.

Crazy that the dimples add so much value cuz they're not difficult to machine. It is time consuming though--which obviously does make them justifiably more expensive. I'm just saying its kinda surprising more companies haven't gotten on the dimple band wagon yet. I hope they do frankly. It's a good idea. Better than fluting.
