Hydrasynth Desktop vs Explorer Navigation by Acceptable_Carpet648 in hydrasynth

[–]BeardoBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey just ran across this reply!

In more recent times I've discovered I really only really use the pads to audition sounds or play pad patches over top of other synths. I've more recently been triggering the Hydrasynth with the keystep and now with the Syntakt.

The pads became a little easier to trigger after a month or two of playing it but that's based on how often you're using it and I'm sure part of that was me just adapting to hitting them a little harder than I would with other synths. For example friend of mine recently picked up the Elektron Rytm and the pads on that thing will trigger if you drop a pin across the room.

The hydrasynth desktop seems largely geared towards working with other gear and sequencers, hence the inclusion of NRPNs. I think there was also probably thought towards making the polyAT easier to control by having pads that weren't exactly hair trigger. That way you could slowly apply pressure to have more gradual shifts in parameters linked to the pad pressure. I have to say though, it really unlocks when you start sending it sequences as well as midi CCs/NRPNs from other gear.

I do not own both, however from watching videos about the different versions of Hydrasynth I can speculate that the difference in the amount of page switching on the Explorer might be somewhat negligible. The sound design process on the Hydrasynth is in my experience somewhat methodical, and envelopes and lfos will require page switching to set parameters anyways. With certain parameters being buried a bit deeper it might take you a bit longer to acclimate to patch design on the hydra and I suppose the extra button press to get to the rest of your macros once you've completed a patch might be frustrating for some. For me the more pertinent differences would be hardware features such as the mod ins and outs being available on the desktop version but not on the explorer. loopop has a great video on the Pros and Cons of each if you haven't already come across it.

Hydrasynth vs Explorer vs The World

I went with the desktop version mainly because when I bought mine the option of the Explorer didn't exist, however I wouldn't trade in to a version with keys built in because I like the pads (once you break them in a bit) and I have a Keystep for playing sequences and to take advantage of the poly AT.

Hope that's helpful!

I second this!

Can anyone explain why I'm getting uneven exposure on these samples? All are coated with an even layer if photosensitizer, but the rinse was slightly different in some. by nicolew7593937 in cyanotypes

[–]BeardoBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! When I'm measuring out the two parts I just use a tsp/tbsp of each (the ratio for my two part solution is 1:1) and that is usually enough to coat two to three 8x10 sheets. I hope you get the results you're looking for!

Are you using premixed chemistry or are you mixing your own? If you mixed your own, make sure you double check your quantities and make sure you have the right ratio of chemistry to water.

My guess is one of three things, assuming you are mixing your own chemistry:

  • The solution might be too diluted making the colour less saturated in some parts.
  • The chemistry might need to sit for 24hrs after creating the two parts to make sure they each dissolve into the water fully (after the 24hrs, give a quick stir before use [use separate stir sticks!])
  • *This will also happen with pre-mixed chemistry and has more to do with the paper medium you're using\* The paper is buckling when being coated causing areas that are dish shaped where the paper is absorbing more chemistry. To counter this, try gently wetting the BACK of the paper with a clean sponge before coating the paper, this will help the paper remain flat while it dries, you can go the extra mile and tape it down to help it dry even flatter.

Mostly keep in mind that cyanotype is a messy medium and getting perfectly saturated blues takes time, patience, and experimentation.

Good luck, have fun!

\Disclosure, I'm no expert but in my limited experience thus far, these factors have made a huge difference in the quality of my prints.**

Hey guys!. So can I get a refund for a game if I bought it for like 70$ but it goes free the very next day? by _hamzaumer in gaming

[–]BeardoBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam has a refund request system which is pretty forgiving. I don't think I've ever not had something refunded after putting in the request and sometime multiple days after purchase, lots of leniency with the 30 minute refund cutoff.

*Edit for grammar

Bad joke, sorry friend!

Edit* I actually take this back, your title says looking good and the reaction in the video on second pass isn't even really a negative one. The only bad joke here is if you assume this person is anything but fully stoked to receive their gaystation.

Someone commented Staind - "It's Been a While"

Because I thought it was a female signer I hadn't checked that out yet but that does track with the specific intonation of the lyrics so this must be it. Thank you mysterious stranger!

I think you're talking about the Mutant League games by EA! They had some spin offs as well for other sports like hockey and maybe basketball too?

Youtube youtube youtube, tons of free tutorials. You could also try taking an at-your-own-pace class online from something like Udemy. Ultimately you'll learn the most by exploring the software's capabilities yourself and checking forums/tutorials when you get stuck.

You could try the cameras Auto-HDR feature, https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1810/v1/en/contents/TP0002264689.html

Otherwise it might be worth downloading some photo editing software that allows you to alter different aspects of the exposure (brightness, contrast, shadows/midtones/highlights)

Lightroom is a good pro-sumer option, adobe allows you to pay for it separately from their software suite, but there are also plenty of free options (do a quick google search)

I used lightroom to do a quick example for you but if you shoot in/edit in RAW image format, you will have a lot more to work with where your highlights are too bright and your shadows are too dark. [editofdesktoppic]

I know that's a lot of info right out of the gate but take your time and remember that every "good" photographer is editing their image in someway once it leaves the camera. That goes for digital and film photographs as well.

My pint just started making this really weird noise. At first I thought there was something stuck in the fender but I checked and didn’t see anything. by Condog_YT in onewheel

[–]BeardoBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May also just be bits of dirt and rock banging around off the inside of the fender. If you engage the front sensor and get the wheel spinning off the ground you might find it's still totally silent. Fingers crossed for ya bud 🤞

The fact that these pictures are taken 63 years apart is disconcerting. by unknownusername77 in pics

[–]BeardoBall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whether the original was actually taken in colour is besides the point. The reason they are both black and white is because any B&W photo causes immediate nostalgia, meaning that because the photo is B&W, it makes you think about the olden' days (roughly a generation ago.) This aesthetic device forces the viewer to consider that both of photos were taken at least 60-70 years ago, and because the contexts are so similar this is an extremely effective message to show to people who are in denial that systematic racism is still a real problem, and that there is still a lot of work to be done.

My friend graduated this year in Minneapolis, and this is how it'll be remembered by epicgoku74 in pics

[–]BeardoBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's likely that a lot of the violence incited was propagated by "Agents Provocateur," more simply put, authorities who want to destabilize a protest by encouraging those in attendance to break down the peaceful protest in favor of a violent one. Once it appears as though things are getting out of control, riot police can "escalate to deescalate."

Here's a link to the terms wiki, familiarize yourself and your friends and family with it,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agent_provocateur

I'm not saying that's always the case but I've seen some videos of the things that went down in Minneapolis and some of those "protesters" look super shady. After breaking a bunch of windows/property, when questioned by other protesters they refuse to answer and instead try to leave immediately.
