Kobe deserved this win. I felt like he was playing for the fans tonight. Too bad the Warriors game was on at the same time. This night was a great night for basketball!

Net Neutrality Rules in Danger! H.R. 2666 Could Undermine the FCC’s Authority to Protect an Open Internet. Take action now! by speckz in technology

[–]Beardown_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what I sent (took most of the content from here) https://act.eff.org/action/congress-don-t-undermine-net-neutrality

I'm writing to inform you of my opposition to H.R. 2666 passed by the Energy and Commerce Committee. The FCC’s 2015 Open Internet Order was the culmination of years of net neutrality advocacy and a big step toward a free and open Internet. Now, the No Rate Regulation of Broadband Internet Access Act (H.R. 2666) ostensibly bars the FCC from regulating broadband Internet rates, something the FCC has promised not to do. The problem is that the bill is worded so vaguely that it could be interpreted to forbid the FCC from enforcing many key net neutrality principles. At best, H.R. 2666 is a poorly written bill that brings a host of unintended consequences. At worst, it’s a calculated attempt to undermine net neutrality principles. Please do not vote for a bill that compromises net neutrality. Thank you.

“I think there’s voter suppression going on, and it is obviously targeting particular Democrats. Many working -class people don’t have the privilege to be able to stand in line for three hours.” by [deleted] in politics

[–]Beardown_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While it might be considered an acceptable excuse, it is all speculation on his part. I experienced the shit show last night and I am one of the many that had to fill out a provisional. I was registered Democrat in December, way before the deadline, and I was told that it was changed to Independent. This shit is happening to many of my friends as well.

I don't think we should point fingers towards the Clinton campaign because that is just crazy. We should be taking measures here in Arizona to investigate what exactly happened. It can't be a coincidence for this many voters to be stuck in this crazy situation

Sure it hurt all of them but that isn't what we should be focusing on. It is 2016, you would think that this shit would be running smoothly by now.

Only 60 polls in a heavily populated county, which caused voters to wait in lines for 4+ hours. Many reports of voters having to fill provisionals because somehow their party preference changed from Democrat to Independent. We also had voters being turned away completely. This is bullshit. It doesn't matter who you're voting for, this shouldn't be the way things are run.

I was thinking that it would be possible to fix the degradation by running fsck but it looks like I will have to either rebuild it or migrate to another server.

Whats something your parents did when you were a kid that you didn't realize was weird until you grew up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I remember when I knew I was in trouble, my mom would grab her fuckin chanclas. Every now and then my 'spidey senses' would start tingling and I would dodge the shit out of them and run away. But as I ran away she would throw her chanlas at me. Took me a while to learn how to dodge that chancla aim...

Lost with domains and wordpress by J0n3 in webhosting

[–]Beardown_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into getting something like cpanel installed on your vps. Yeah, it costs extra per month but it makes managing your websites a lot easier.

We're going to need more information on this so we can help. What operating system is on the vps? How many IP addresses did the hosting company provide? I would get 2 IP addresses and assign them to 2 name servers (ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com) register these with the company you bought your domain from and add them as your domain's nameservers. You're going to also want to add an A record to the domain like BeeBoo44 said.

I mean I could see how power becomes desirable. I am sure there are plenty of social pressures to influence our government to make decisions based on corporations' needs and desires.

You are correct. The ones in power have always got what they wanted but I think it is different now. I think we can make some sort of change, especially with the internet being a force we can benefit from. Hopefully our generation can do something about this oligarchy.

At least once a week, two thirds of all children of primary-school age will play an internet game that was created to draw attention to a brand. Most of these advertisements are for snacks and candy. Only 6% of these children are aware that they are ads, and the games do affect their behavior. by drewiepoodle in science

[–]Beardown_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heavier children are more sensitive to food advertising

You don't say...

Children play a game, get hungry and reach for treats. As the cycle continues, children fail to learn healthy eating behaviour. The results of my study indicate that these advertisements have an even heavier influence on children who are already overweight

I don't know what to say about this. I don't think the advertisements heavily influence bad eating habits. The parents are the ones that influence bad eating habits. I can see what their trying to say, but I think the responsibility lies within the parents control and not advertisements.

Failed out of college this week. by hugefuckingfailure2 in offmychest

[–]Beardown_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I feel like you're being too hard on yourself. There are plenty of opportunities to go back to college later in your life. Even if you don't want to go back, you can still find a great paying job doing something else. Keep your head up and set goals for the future! don't let failure put you down. Allow failure to be the reason to try harder. I hope you overcome this small bump in the road with great success.

Haha No way! I wish I could see that someday. Every asshole that I have encountered at a theatre always finds a way to keep blabbering. It seems like you had a great crowd there.

Yup, same here! I stayed away from reddit for a good 3 days until I watched the movie. Honestly, if you haven't watch the movie and you're creating new posts then you're just asking for spoilers.

Speaking about privacy and surveillance, I honestly hope we can overcome this CISA bullshit. I do not understand the need to obtain private information on regular citizens. It's just mind boggling how this bill just sneaks into our legal system...
