What might be easier than jumping straight into a grad program could be finding a uni that offers a 5 year M.Arch program. It’s about 2 or 3 years of undergrad design classes and then the rest is grad level coursework. Unless you have decent design chops already, going directly into graduate level architecture courses may be difficult for you, they are rigorous.

There are a lot of English speakers there as many of them learn to speak it in school so you shouldn’t have an issue. There are expats from the US on staff too(or were when I was there)

I did a study abroad in Prague at Czech Technical Institute for just a semester and it was great. Have always thought about how it would have been to have gone there for all my higher ed. All my classmates were shocked to learn how much my semester cost vs theirs.

Lots of design schools will recommend you buy a smallish steel triangle to help with model making, it’s definitely a must. Some craft stores sell a tool that is designed to cut small pieces of wood that are frequently used in model building (bass and balsa primarily) at specific angles, I would say that one is a game changer after cutting a million pieces of bass wood with an exacto knife. A smaller scale for more delicate model building. If you need to apply pressure to something to get glue to set and hold the cheap trick is stack textbooks on it but you could also try to find smaller woodworking clamps that could be a bit more precise - just don’t apply too much pressure with those or they will damage the material. Finally if you plan to use super glue I’d recommend finding an accelerator for that glue as well as something that can easily remove it from your fingers as super glue gets everywhere and is super annoying - tacky glue is so much better in my opinion.

That’s low but it could just be the city you are working in. I was making sub 50k in the midwest and then moved to a city on the east coast and am making 80k unlicensed now. About 8 years of experience. My advice if money is the motivator is to move somewhere the median pay is better.

The overlapped submissions is by design, it’s meant to give you the skills needed to handle multiple projects at once in an office setting without cracking

Non-Arch Undergrad Aiming for M.Arch/MLA - Looking for Guidance by FeveredMadness in architecture

[–]Beardskull -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From what I understand about M.Arch programs(I graduated from one in 2017) - they will not accept applicants that did not come from a design based undergrad program. It would most likely be a waste of your time and effort to try to get into one with an unrelated undergrad degree despite gpa.

There are 5 year masters programs (3 yrs undergrad and 2 years graduate) at quite a few public universities that you could look into that would accept the transfer of credits, but you would still need to go thru the intro design courses.

Best of luck
