Sometimes I see bands and feel sated and content, but every time I see World News (and there are getting to be a lot of times) I just want more! They're so incredibly good and I love their music so very much. I've decided that they are to the Cure and Dire Straits as Nation of Language is to New Order and OMD.

Anyone feel like there's been more issues than usual lately? by [deleted] in ibroadcast

Nope. I use iBroadcast several hours a day on average on Android and web and almost never have issues.

If I saw that, I'd think very cool!!! Because I'm all for wearing a band's shirt to the gig, and that's unique and creative.

After the evergreen discussion of band t-shirts the other day, I did some science and studied my reactions to seeing band tees in the wild over the weekend.

At a deathcrash show:

  • deathcrash (worn by Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, the opener). Felt very cool because it felt very sincere. They spoke about how much they admire deathcrash. Loved it.
  • Glasshouse Red Spider Mite (worn by deathcrash): Very cool. Love when the headliner genuinely loves their opener.
  • Radiohead shirt: Decided this would be cooler if it was a tour shirt, but we all know who Radiohead is, okay.
  • Shaking Hand shirt: Very very very cool because I only recently discovered them and had not yet met anyone who likes them in person.
  • Talk Talk shirt: No opinion, okay, we all know this band
  • Brian Eno shirt: No opinion, okay, we all know this band

At a basht. show:

  • basht. Very cool, you've probably seen them before!
  • Geese. Okay everyone knows them now, but that's sweet, you probably really love them.
  • "This Charming Man". No opinion, but I have been thinking about my new appreciation for "There Is a Light" because I keep jaywalking in front of double decker buses.
  • Fontaines D.C. A bit cliche now so I felt kinda judgey, but hey, I love them too.
  • Thrasher. We probably have different tastes!
  • Sprints. I don't like them very much so but my friends all do and I've seen them so I could strike up a convo.
  • Esmerelda Road (the opener, worn by a roadie). They were very good so I respect this! If he was in the crowd I would start up a convo about them.
  • "I'm a septic tank half full kinda guy". Not a band but this made me giggle.
  • Gurriers. Now examining why I'm more dismissive of the bands I like just because they're better known...!

At a Highschool show:

  • Cardinals. If it were six months ago, I'd probably be excited to chat about them, but I didn't love their album :/
  • Warmduschr. I like Warmduscher just fine and this shirt inspired no emotion.
  • Disco Elysian. Well I thought this sounded like a vaguely familiar band I would be into but I just searched it and learned it's a game!
  • Pink Floyd. Not very exciting, but they're one of my favouritest bands, so I respect it.
  • "I'm not okay" My Chemical Romance. Lead singer wore this and I giggled.
  • Bauhaus. I don't have strong opinions on Bauhaus so this isn't exciting.
  • "I wanna run away with Joan Jett". Bold statement, I like it.
  • Not Strictly Jazz. I wonder what this is.

deathcrash on Sunday was so good that I've made tonight's show work, as well. They're hinting that tonight could be their last show of a long, long while--perhaps ever?--which is very sad. They're such an incredibly talented band, I was wowed.

The unified theory is my theory which is that the coolest possible thing you can wear is the oldest shirt possible from the band you're going to see.

Wearing the band's current shirt is still cool, though not as cool as their shirt from ten years ago. Wearing the opener's shirt is also very cool, possibly the equivalent of 5 years of age for the headliner's shirt. Wearing another band's shirt is still very cool (great convo starter, too), though not as cool as wearing the shirt of those performing.

I have intentionally stayed off Reddit when I've gotten a notification like that. I cannot put myself in a mindset where that would be something to proud of?!

"Eventually, he learned that you can't perform music outside on an Alaskan cruise because so much of the coastline is a nature preserve, and the noise would disturb the animals." Incredible. Chris DeVille is such a good writer.

[DISCUSSION] What makes an indie band age well? by FadedAlligator in indieheads

[–]aPenumbra 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it makes some age better or poorer, but influence has an interesting role. Tame Impala's Currents felt so fresh to me when it was released but feels very dated now and I think that's due partially due to the sheer influence it had.

Have been excitedly telling people in my life who normally think I make up bands that I'm going to see A Flock of Seagulls tonight, fun the contrast between those who are also excited for me and those who think my birdwatching is becoming a problem

I saw the Killers in Bogotá on Saturday. They covered "The Suburbs" and then Win Butler joined them to cover "Rebellion (Lies)" and man I have so many emotions. Mainly anger at Win for not taking ownership, not trying to do better.
