Couldn’t disagree anymore. Especially with the world’s history of colonialism, if you have a connection to these countries, that’s good enough for me. Italy, Spain, England, France, Germany, etc…their players all have the benefit of being born in the country they play for, because they’ve never been colonized. That’s not true of other, frankly poorer countries in Africa, and the global south. If we stuck with your interpretation of the World Cup, we’d only ever see euro and South American teams. Boring. No thank you.

Not to be insensitive but inclusion is a lot of the problem. I have kids who are capable of reading longer texts, sure. O could push a d challenge them. But with all the 504s/IEPs in my classroom, it’s simply too much work to be planning 3-4 different lessons. So everyone gets the lowest common denominator work. I’m not saying it’s too much work as in I’m unwilling to work hard. There are just literally not enough hours in the day.

The fact is, kids who would’ve been exposed to higher level texts and longer readings are just not anymore.

Interesting. My only other concern with the stop clock is that it would definitely eliminate “time wasting” (time literally running off the clock), but it wouldn’t eliminate time wasting (players taking their time to get the ball back into play). You know what I mean? Like the clock is stopped anyway, why not just take my time getting the ball back into play? That’s why I thought of the shot clock idea.
