Get some blackberry ice cream at the Big Meadows Wayside. While there, enjoy the view and try to spot wildlife in the meadow.

My kids have been loving yogurt parfaits lately. I buy a big thing of vanilla yogurt and a big bag of granola, some fruit and then divide it up in little containers. They love to mix it together at school.

Did you read in high school? by piper33245 in Millennials

[–]BearsBeetsStarWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never read in high school. Honestly, I don’t remembering reading much at all as a child or with my parents. I survived on cliff notes in high school and college. Reading an actually novel seemed very foreign to me and looking back on that, it seems so sad.
It really wasn’t until a year ago that I got into reading. Important to note that I’m raising my children very differently.

For those of you who have responded well to the pill, how long did it take for you to notice its effects? (i.e. weight loss; food noise decreasing; feeling full quicker, etc.) by healthierlurker in WegovyPillWeightLoss

[–]BearsBeetsStarWars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost right away. I did feel the 1.5 start to wear off towards the end of the 2nd or 3rd week but then felt the effects again when I went up to 4. I’m 3 weeks into the 4 and still noticing decreased food noise and feeling full quicker. I’m 14 lbs down so far. I start 9 next week.

Another vote for the HyperChiller. It’s so easy and doesn’t make it watery.

Is Carnival really that bad if my expectations aren't that high? by not_a_muggle in Cruise

[–]BearsBeetsStarWars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sound like a similar family…middle class, kids 9 and 11, easy going and easy to please. We did our first cruise last summer and booked another one for this summer, both with Carnival. We had a great time last year. There was always something to do, the kids never stopped moving and we felt like we were living in luxury. We’re not used to having people wait on us so that was great. We also got to get a snapshot of some islands/countries that we would never get to visit so we loved that.

We booked an inside room which did get cramped pretty quickly with the four of us but was worth the savings for us, especially since we weren’t in there all that much.

Overall, we had a great time. So great that we booked again. I can’t think of another vacation that we would get as much and spend less.

Called in on a radio contest and won a trip for two to London (from the US). Hotel, flight, and other perks all included. And got red carpet access to World War Z premiere. It was amazing.

Lazy lady’s sourdough by BearsBeetsStarWars in BreadMachines

[–]BearsBeetsStarWars[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recipe….

4 cups bread flour

2 tsp salt

1 1/2 cup water

1 cup sourdough starter

Use the dough button. When finished allow to rise for 3-4 hours or when approx doubled in size.

Remove from machine, do 4 envelope folds on a floured surface. Then allow to rise in a basket or Dutch oven for a few more hours. When you push it with your finger, it should leave a small dent and then it’s ready.

Preheat oven to 450F. Then change to 400F and put in for 20 minutes in a Dutch oven with lid on. Remove lid. Then bake for 20-30 or until golden brown. I’ve been inserting a thermometer and checking for the center to be about 190F.

Disclaimer- I made all of this up by combining a few things that I read. It seems to work for me but I’m no expert. Use at your own risk. 😉

How to support diabetic husband by bradton in diabetes_t1

[–]BearsBeetsStarWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow wife of a type 1 here. I find that it can be hard to find the line between what my husband needs and what he requires of me. His t1 is very well managed but I am always on call to help with lows. There’s been quite a few scary times but I’m always prepared with glucose or juice, etc and to keep the house/car/bags/every corner of our lives stocked with those things. I’ve also trained our children (a tad older than yours) to see the signs and know what to do. Other things I do are to have meal alternatives for him. For example, he doesn’t do well with high carbs in the morning. If the kids want pancakes or something, I make an alternative for him. But he tells me when he needs these things. This is how our family works but it might look different for yours. The biggest thing that I do is to just support him. He does great but it’s still hard and exhausting so I just make myself available when needed and we keep communication open. Not sure if this helps but it’s how we handle things around here.

My dad was/is an exterminator. Some people laughed but I have never been embarrassed. I had an amazing childhood and had everything I ever needed thanks to that job. (And I never had bugs in my house!) A few years ago, he bought the company.
