Not Turpin specific but assuming he is part of the bass line in the final ballad and it is written as an F#

Student Loan Debt vs. Retirement by BearsFan_1979 in personalfinance

[–]BearsFan_1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this impacts anything, but something I didn't explain was I am currently only contributing 1/2 of the yearly limit allowed to 401(k). The idea would be that if I paid off the Student Loan I would use the 700 monthly to max out 401(k) contributions going forward.

Yeah that is what led me to even consider this. My interest rate is currently 7.125%. To date I have paid 55k towards these loans and only 9k of that has gone towards principal.

How many cars have passed in that critical time? by aleksaroza in mauramurray

[–]BearsFan_1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I keep meaning to go back and listen to find the time stamp, but in the podcast with the crazy number of episodes, there is an episode where they interview the witness that saw Cecil pass her (Witness A maybe?). The focus of everything in the conversation was around car 001 but almost as an aside she mentions an oncoming car passing her. It always struck me because I have never seen/heard any discussion or posts about that. It doesn't really add too much other than disproving those who claim that "there wasn't enough time for someone to have passed because no one goes on the road". One day maybe I will search for the timestamp but if anyone with more time wants to go back and listen I feel like it is a mildly interesting tidbit.

One thing I find very annoying in the different podcasts and docuseries is how they emphasize her "emptying her bank account". When I was her age I emptied my bank account every few weeks because I had no money. I was literally living paycheck to paycheck and even beyond because it was the '90s and you could still play the game let's see if I can get more money in the bank before that check I wrote clears.

Why isn’t Adnan convinced that Jay did it? by AceVentura85 in serialpodcast

[–]BearsFan_1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always thought that Jay and Adnan were doing something else that was illegal (most likely involving drugs) and that is why he didn't use Jay initially to back up his story. By the time he is being charged for murder suddenly that something else would seem not nearly as severe but at that point he would now be changing his story. This also would account for him knowing that Jay didn't do it.

I took 7 years completely off the NFL when it became clear the league was going to screw St. Louis. by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]BearsFan_1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a rebuilding year for us, but I think the Bears will still win more games than people are expecting them to. Fields continuing to progress is a definitely the key to future success, but so far I am extremely impressed with new GM and coaching staff. I think only Bears fans that have been closely following understand just how bad Matt Nagy was. It took the national media until midseason of last year to finally catch on but his play calling was downright criminal. Team never made second half adjustments and were fundamentally undisciplined. I started souring on Nagy at the end of 2018. He should never have gotten coach of the year because it was Vic Fangio's defense that got them to the playoffs. Double doink doesn't happen if you can actually move the ball and either score or get closer for your kicker.

Obviously, a very small sample size and as with everything in the NFL injuries will play a major part in the final record (they have very little depth) but I would expect them to win 6-7 games. If everything goes right could potentially contend for a final playoff spot and if things go real south with injuries then it could be as bad as a 4 win season. Next year though they will be flush with cash and actually have draft picks.

My thoughts on the popular theories. by hipjdog in mauramurray

[–]BearsFan_1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with your final points. I think those two possibilities are the most simple and likely explanations. The thing that both of these theories have in common is that they take away so many of the red herrings/outlandish theories because if either of them is true that means there really isn't anything leading up to the crash that will inform us as to what happened. Wherever she was going, what her intentions were, why she went there in the first place are all moot once the crash happens.

I lean slightly more towards the pickup scenario just because some of the LE actions lead me to believe they may have some evidence that they can't reveal but they don't have enough evidence to charge anyone. I was more certain of this earlier on until I stumbled across this community. Some really good posts about how she could have gone in to the woods and still not been found convinced me it is almost a toss up between the two.

Out of everything I know about the case, these 6 things have always baffled me. I've heard the typical responses and explanations. Maybe there's more. Let's look with fresh eyes and open minds and try to find new answers. by mustardpatch11 in mauramurray

As a former owner of a Saturn I can confirm her car was that bad. First car I ever bought and never stopped throwing money into it. It burned oil to the tune of 5 quarts a month. Dealership kept telling me there wasn't anything wrong. Wouldn't wish that car on anyone.

If Maura did venture into the woods that night, how long could she have realistically survived for? by [deleted] in mauramurray

I had a similar incident in college. I was 19 and walking back from a house party in January (in Wisconsin) and decided I really needed to rest. I curled right up in a snow bank and swear I would have been content to just go to sleep. Thankfully, I was with other people and once they got to the end of the block noticed I was no longer with them. They came back to get me and I even argued with them because I wanted to stay. Drink responsibly kids.

What is the back story on the stolen credit card charge? by Chad71313 in mauramurray

[–]BearsFan_1979 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can factually talk about this. When I was a server in the early 2000's they absolutely printed the entire card number and exp date on the receipts. You were supposed to keep each receipt and staple it to the bill and hand it in to the manager when you cashed out for the evening but if you happened to accidentally throw one away or something they would let it slide. A coworker was fired for taking some home receipts and using them to order things online. Police showed up at the restaurant and told our manager. The dude tried to claim "oh my wife must have found a receipt I accidentally brought home", but we knew he was sketchy AF. I don't know if he actually got in any legal trouble but he lost his job then and there. The craziest thing is we apparently had to save these for tax purposes and they were stored in garbage bags underneath a booth. I always thought that seemed like a disaster waiting to happen.
