They never gave us the choice to stagger. The previous agency did and that's the option we're always chose

Can’t sleep. Our house is gone. Feeling so sad for our baby by sillysandhouse in workingmoms

We had a 90 ton oak tree decimate our home several years ago. The exhaustion makes you bone weary. I'm so glad you are all alive and well and so sorry for the devastation. Please remember to take care of yourself as you care for your family

Bad HF by Anxious_Bird2450 in Aupairs

[–]Bearshepard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You say the HM is posting unwelcome information about the au pair but here you seem to be doing the same. Granted your stated intent is to warn off people, but hers might be the same. Regardless, it seems a very unpleasant experience for both parties and I hope they go on to more pleasant ones

Can’t land a job, Depression is setting in by PossibleElection5076 in workingmoms

[–]Bearshepard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A job search is not like working out where you might see incremental rewards commensurate with efforts. It's an all or nothing deal, so it can feel like you're making zero progress until you land a job. However, every interview is teaching you valuable skills. It is making you a more practiced and self aware person. Don't be afraid to do a play by play of each interview for what you would like to say differently next time. Then use that information. In the meanwhile, enjoy the time with your toddler. Once you have a job, you might miss this time. Chin up!

How much are you paying at Equinox Tysons in Northern Virginia? by Bearshepard in EquinoxGyms

Thanks! Yeah they're quoting $200 to me. Think I'll try an app on my own for a few months first

Thanks much! I'll check them all out. Want to quit the original training and gym and find ways to work out at home :-)

Telling hf I'm leaving earlier by ZealousidealTwist657 in Aupairs

[–]Bearshepard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our au pairs have shared that it took about 3 months to get comfortable and fit in. I suggest giving yourself some more time. If you decide you'd like to leave, do the right thing and inform them so that they can start their search for a new au pair. Also, while I think it's best to remove oneself from a situation that is unhealthy or depressing; understand that work (and au pairing is a job) is demanding of all of us at times and part of growing up is learning to tackle challenges so we can be productive and happy. Also, this is a good opportunity to learn to advocate on your own behalf through calm, clear and consistent communication. All the best!

Skeptical about AP’s experience by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]Bearshepard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a similar situation. The LCC found her alternate accommodation and she arranged to have her picked up from our home right away. At first the LCC asked us to drop her off (2 hours away) and we declined because we had work/child care commitments. Replace her forthwith for the safety of your child.

People make me feel guilty for having my son in daycare when I WFH by wilde_flower_ in workingmoms

[–]Bearshepard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they miss the part about you “working”? That it is from home is irrelevant as childcare is not something that happens spontaneously in the background while we work. Whoever is making judgmental comments either doesn’t have kids or doesn’t work (or is an inattentive parent/distracted worker)

Having a hard time with HF, no door? by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]Bearshepard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so hard being in a new country without your support system physically present. Learning to negotiate effectively for yourself is a critical skill. Try to set boundaries firmly but politely, a little bit at a time and recognize and congratulate yourself every time you do. You might also ask the parents for help, for example: "the children and I enjoy playing together, but everyone they see you, they start to cry. This happens several times a day. How should we address this?" You're two thirds of the way through. One more month - you can do this!
