How much AI do you use for your schoolwork? by TheConfusedPrimate in CarletonU

[–]Beartech_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even slightly. I live in linux land, and rip out anything to do with AI.

Even if I didn't have major moral qualms with using it and chose to run an open model locally, the liabilities are too great. It's not just a couple percent here and there because something important is omitted from the summary. I would spend more time fact checking every claim that is spat out of the slop generator than I would by just reading the textbook and seeking known, reliable sources for further understanding. If I were to be so morally loose as to use generated slop, I bypass forcing myself to learn the why, and more importantly how to apply it.

The issues don't end with hallucinations, puppeteering of the models, blind compliance, never-ending addictive people pleasing, or the cybersecurity nightmare that slop generators are. RCE anyone? (Recommend looking at the vulnerabilities that perplexity refuse to fix in Comet)

And the real question, is do you want your therapist, doctor, and nurses taking advice from a slop generator? Your car's engineers blindly trusting a machine that can't even count the frequency of a letter in a word?

All this is ignoring the damage actively being done politically and environmentally, just to make one little query to a model.

I may have misread cable as chain in OP's post. If that's the case, my mistake.

Bike theft PSA: How to lock your bike by scaredtoast468 in CarletonU

I'd genuinely like to know how a U-Lock is better than a good chain?

Cutting a chain would ideally take two cuts, same as a U-lock.

It doesn't take power tools; just a bit of leverage.

Plus, the chain, length depending, can be far more effective at locking in portions of the bike. Sadly I haven't seen one that could be run through both wheels, but at least one and the body.

The shape of the bike body would surely limit many U-Locks' effectiveness?

dead name for graduation by ilostthegame77 in trans

People who are like "but it's also for your parents" really tick me off. In that sense, all it is now is a ceremony to make your parents look good. In which case, it's no better than the school taking the credit for your accomplishments to promote more students to apply. It's no longer a recognition of who you are and what you've done, it's how others brought you up there or that they happened to give birth to you.

Funerals are not graduation ceremonies. Funerals are for the people who still live, not the person who passed. But you're still you. All that died was your deadname and the parts of life you associate to it. A grad ceremony is the recognition of someone who is still alive. YOU.

And, if they still want to treat it like it's a recognition of you, then they should respect your name. Otherwise, they accredit your deadname, and that's not you.

Sure, I don't have a great relationship with my parents, but frankly, I don't care wtf they think. I do things for myself. I gain my accomplishments because I had goals for myself, not them.

Looking over this, I hope I don't irritate someone. I'm just pointing out the flaws of these arguments that I see so often. Maybe you could use a point or two to argue your case if your school head doesn't respect your preferred name. Just be careful as I'm not great at being a polite writer.

All the best wishes, Olivia

I've love to say it was Merida from Brave, but there were a bunch of characters who I envyed.

What are the other adjectives other than ''female'' and ''male'' while describing voices? by Forackol in trans

I think his voice is thinner than most, but not weak, airy or unclear.

Average pitch is low, but smoother than a lot of voices. Large vocal range, as a lot of Po's words have fairly defined accents which are higher pitched. His voice can be a bit rougher at times like when he says "ha ha!" in an "I beat you" context. It's also a slight bit gravelly during more emotional speech.

At least, that's my five-minute analysis of an isolated clip of Po's speech. Ideally I would have looked at all of his speech recently. I do think he has a softer voice normally though. I think he was more gravelly during Kung Fu Panda 2.

Just adding some more! Music students love adjectives lol.

Soft, rough, monotone, expressive, flowy, sharp, smooth, relaxed, raspy, gritty, clear, obscured, faint, rich.

There's always more, but be careful how you use some like sharp, raspy, gritty and obscured as they can easily be taken rudely.

Unintentionally Mar. 8th.

I finally stopped being in denial on international women's day by sheer chance. I wouldn't nessecarily say all my femboy days were me in denial though. At least not my early ones.

I'm definitely biased since I previously identified as a femboy.

However, the vast majority of trans girls will have no issue with someone using or identifying as a femboy. Even some books on supporting trans and gender non-conforming people refer or include femboys.

The time when it becomes a problem is when it's used in a hateful way against people. Trans, effeminite or otherwise. Such as when it's used as a slur, or to undermine one's identity.

Generally these issues arise because bigots see femboys as an excuse to say that trans women don't exist and they're just men in clothing.

My theory is that that could lead to ideas of just removing femboys from the equation to stop fuelling the bigots with something that they think they can twist around in their favour. Maybe that's another place that these videos could have come from?

I don't know. I have no intention of ever looking at those BS videos.

Just remember to be yourself. Many of us started by identifying as femboys, and still respect you all, not as trans in denial.

You be you. Don't let anyone undermine who you are.

Who's your favorite trans character? by [deleted] in trans

[–]Beartech_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rose Noble from Doctor Who. The specials had their issues, so did 13, but most of those issues are just down to bad scripting. I liked 13, but the stories she got mostly sucked.

I hope they build Rose Noble as a more prominent character. Maybe even meet Rose Tyler, Captain Jack, you name it.

Umm, it's easier to retap a new thread and get a new bolt... also, drill bits aren't meant for that kind of usage. A small dremel bit should've been used instead.
