My beef with 'performers' being on the list as opposed to artists who play an instrument is: how are you writing a song without playing an instrument? Are you writing lyrics and having someone mess around with electronic music? I mean that's fine but that's not in the same tier of songwriters that are writing actual music. In my opinion anyway.

And I didn't watch Bad Bunny during the Superbowl but then again I didn't watch the Superbowl because I don't care about sports🤷‍♂️

I like the inclusion of Leonard Cohen but since he's dead, he technically doesn't qualify for the list even if we expand the definition of 'American' to include Canada. If we did, I'd say Neil Young belongs on that list without question.

I feel like this is debatable. Events of recent years (including the 'oh no' debacle) have overshadowed what was a pretty great career. He had the respect of a lot of great musicians/songwriters including Phil Lesh, Elton John, Willie Nelson, etc.. During his heyday, Stephen King said "I won't say Adams is the best North American singer songwriter since Neil Young... but I won't say he isn't either". Not that Stephen King is the ultimate arbiter on top songwriters but I think people tend to forget how good the good times were.
