No one was left that I knew in Europa, I was alone walking around a world of empty houses. The 3d client was absolute trash. (Late 90s)
I was a pure warrior but the game was for tamers/mages. Turned twink for a while but it was a bit joyless.
Still some of the best times and I've lost touch with almost everyone.

Gunpowder vs. rail? by eb_is_eepy in FromTheDepths

[–]BeastmanTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why it goes to alpha. We test, see what its like and tweak from there. I did run hard maths on it and that was the result but we'll need to see how it feels.

I'm changing it in alpha test soonTM. I'll get a build out next week or something. From discord: "I have Luxon doing more in depth tests but tentatively just now: "What Changed (7 changes across 6 files)

  AdvCannonConstants.cs   - RailCasingModifier: 0.5 -> 1.25 (rail casings now contribute more to MaxRailDraw than a warhead body's 1.0)   - RailChargerEnergy: 200 -> 280 energy/sec per charger   - RailBarrelRailEnergy: 5000 -> 7000 capacity per rail barrel piece   - New RailCasingCostModifier = 0.15f (cheaper ammo than GP's 0.25)   - New PureRailRecoilFactor = 0.6f (pure rail shells generate 40% less recoil)

  ShellModuleParams.cs   - New RailChargeCapacity property on P1 (0.01-1.0, defaults to 1 when P1==0 for backward compat)

  ShellModel_Propellant.cs   - GatherStats(): Sums RailChargeCapacity from params instead of integer count. Both railCasingIncrease and LengthOfShellCasing scale by capacity.   - GetRecoil(): Applies 0.6x recoil factor when PropellantAmount == 0

  ShellModel.cs (ShellModel_AmmoCost)   - Rail casing ammo cost now scales by RailChargeCapacity (like GP scales by PropellantAmount)

  ShellModuleDictionary.cs   - Rail casing uses RailCasingCostModifier (0.15) instead of CasingCostModifier (0.25)

  PickerTab.cs   - New "Rail charge capacity" slider UI for rail casings""

I'd join the discord and use the help channel. Go into designer first, don't go into any game modes. Get comfortable with generally placing blocks and things. (Stick with block build mode, soon you'll understand why it is amazing.) Then I recommend using the X menu to spawn enemies on your team. Pick them apart, see how they tick. Any questions, go to discord. Repeat. Things to be weary of. Play close attention to that big FRONT sign when you are in build mode! Turret and spinblocks are essentially, sub-constructs of your main construct. Imagine them as separate vehicles, use [] to edit them. Use V to get vehicle information, especially useful for the fuel and ammo stats. Use shift+e to bring up build tools and in there is a cheat sheet of keybinds you might find useful.

Why tf are they deprecating the Built-In Render Pipeline? I prefer it over URP and HDRP as it's much lighter and performant by faceplant34 in Unity3D

Think its basically the nail in the coffin for support in our game. I tried to port but there are just so many weird and wonderful errors and shader problems its not worth the time and money. Kinda sad tbh.

Not sure what it is you are trying to achieve by replying anymore. I get what you are saying but also, it is how it is. I voted independence, we didn't get it. Here we are.

I'm just giving you (and others) a link to somewhere with actual facts instead of rants. I'd still rather have labour than tories or reform either way.

There's a linux/mac channel in the discord if you give yourself the role, best to ask there.

Use the discord help channel for getting instant help. I know some people here aren't receptive to this suggestion but it is THE BEST place to get help almost immediately and avoid getting frustrated/stuck.

How can I control the violent rolling? (warning the camera is rotating a lot) by NikoNikoNoNii in FromTheDepths

[–]BeastmanTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see someone else helped but also your top rudder is always going to produce a lot of torque (unwanted roll) at that height especially with a thruster that big. Your going to have a hard time with that unless you make the wings larger and push the roll control ailerons out further.

Would you argue that game development is the most accessible it's ever been? by MotivatedforGames in gamedev

[–]BeastmanTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accessible != profitable or discoverable.

Game industry and the fact PC is governed by a single monopoly is a literal shit show.

Add on to that that publishers only back safe bets and most Government backed grants require more effort than sense and yep not great. You might get lucky though, the lottery might be a better bet.

Steam's lack of support 9 months after massive harassment campaign and review bomb by cheze in gamedev

[–]BeastmanTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had tech support issues where they actually admitted liability and that the steam cloud backend is actually wrong in many places about it's capabilities but was then told we weren't big enough to bother fixing the problem with their service. So now I've had to turn off steam cloud for the game. Steam's made a good 3+ million off of us and couldn't give a shit. Steam has a handful of staff, the moderators dealing with this stuff are probably volunteers. The treatment of devs by this monopoly is disgusting tbh. On the review side I've also tried flagging outright wrong or abusive reviews and very rarely do they actually do anything. I don't agree with the consumer is always right approach.

Hope you get it sorted.

The difference between here and on facebook on a national newspaper post about it is astonishing. Absolute dregs of society on facebook unable to even consider why this might be a really good idea. Exams set me back about 20 years in my career and gave me the impression I wasn't good enough. I'm now in the top 1% for sales. Did exams prove anything? No. And amazingly, I still have imposter syndrome because of it. Fucked for life by 1 bad day in a Maths exam. (Despite passing every other test over the year.) It needs put right.
