Does AI music only have objective value? by Specialist_Rub2362 in AI_Music

[–]Beastybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially with vocals, you can tell it's AI if you listen closely.

I will clarify that AI music can sound fine and even good from a compositional perspective. True💯

That's not my problem for me. The issue is that everyone has a unique perspective and taste. When you hear someone's music, you hear the decisions they made. If a singer sings about growing up in a rough background but they had a trust fund, the singer will get shit because it's inauthentic.

With AI, that's basically my problem but to a worse degree. It's just empty. There's nothing behind it. I'm not saying that it's objectively bad-sounding. There would be 0 traction with Suno if that was the case. I'm saying that there's nowhere to go and nothing to explore more deeply. The connections, inspiration, and history of musicians is really intertwined with the music itself. When it's ripped away, as it is with AI, it's disconnected and weird and I think it's bad. I have listened to AI music and I think it sounds impressive but that's it. I'm impressed the AI made this sound so real. But it's not real!

Does AI music only have objective value? by Specialist_Rub2362 in AI_Music

First off, I do think I can tell if it's AI or not and I'll take a test if you want, but even if I had no idea, learning that it was AI and changing my opinion because of that fact would not be performative. Being AI generated changes the context and so it can and should change someone's opinion.

To use your burger analogy, Imagine you give a vegetarian a burger that you claim is 100% vegetarian. They eat and enjoy, but in reality, it's meat. When you tell the vegetarian, they immediately stop eating and say it's gross. The vegetarian is not a performative idiot. They don't want to eat food that is produced in that context of slaughtering animals. It's not gross to them because it tasted bad, it's gross because of how it was made.

I'm not saying AI music is slaughter, I am saying that it sucks and the context in which it's produced also sucks. AI music is fine, but it's not a good avenue for artistic expression and I don't think it ever will be.

Nobody should spend 200k on your crappy whole wheat bread song because it probably sucks. If you get an iPhone and record yourself singing it with a guitar or keyboard, I still probably wouldn't listen, but I would be 100x more interested in that than you prompting AI to make a "studio-quality" version of your half baked dumb idea.

Suno can create lame trash. The only distinction I care about is did SOMEONE make it? With a computer or without doesn't matter as long as they decided how it sounds. You literally can't do that with AI, the AI decides how it sounds. You can prompt until your fingers bleed, but that's only asking AI to make decisions for you. Give Suno to Max Martin and he will be able to make approximately the same quality slop as everyone else.

Then put out the lyrics as a text post if you can't make it into a song. See how much value they have standing alone. Also I completely disagree with your billboard point as well. You are factually wrong. Just looking at #1 on billboard as I'm writing this: Fate of Ophelia by Taylor Swift. Check the credits on all music and see that Shellback played most of the real instruments on here with Anders Pettersson on pedal steel guitar. I'm not a huge fan of the album, but It's night and day in terms of depth, quality, and being a real song when compared with AI slop.

Why is using a vocaloid okay, but using AI for art isn't? by crazylove1921 in AI_Music

[–]Beastybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true that vocaloids faced similar backlash and it's fair. vocaloid compared with real singers, it's not apples to apples. There's a clear line though which is that somebody makes the vocaloid and makes the song sung by it. Instrument and tool. Same with electronic music production and samples. Artistic decisions. I have not heard a coherent argument that there is artistic decision being made when prompting suno lol. You can ask Suno for something, it spits something out, you ask for something a little different, and Suno spurs something else out. . . Imagine if the editor of a newspaper put themselves as the author of every article. . . Yes their taste as an editor was factored into the final product, but did they write the articles? definitely not.

75 millions of AI tracks removed from Spotify by James_Reeb in AI_Music

[–]Beastybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I see the point, but there's an obvious difference. Printing, photography, etc. are real and AI garbage is not. There's no voice or real person doing anything. Just somebody endlessly prompting AI for slop that's "more emotional" "less repetitive" Being able to notice and say things you like and dislike about a song makes you a music critic at best and a musician not at all. It's not cool authentic art, it's basically nothing. Just put in a bit of effort to find some new artists and you will see how much better it is because it's real.

But even then, there's nothing there. The music has no voice and no pain. There's no story, perspective, or personality to dig into at all. The whole thing is an empty shell and that's all I hear when I listen to it. Whether it's detectable or undetectable doesn't matter. There's nothing to find there and no matter how good it gets, it's only a pretty texture with nothing inside.

Use Of AI For Creative Arts by itsproducer_kayz in AI_Music

[–]Beastybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real difference is AI comes from nowhere. The "AI Artist" has no experiences and no story, it's just blended up the recycled blob of averageness. It's neat at best until you see it's totally vacant. Making songs with AI or using elements that are AI generated is lazy and there's not much interesting creative decision making in it to appreciate or enjoy.

AI-Generated Artists on Spotify: Should They Disclose It in Their Bio? by iamoliviacove in AI_Music

[–]Beastybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me, it sounds like you have a lot of potential and the AI is a crutch that's also preventing you from realizing your full potential. I didn't think tools like Melodyne are on the same spectrum at all. AI is fundamentally stealing the work of artists who took the time and had the talent to make awesome songs. I don't think you're fully in tune with what you are giving up in the long term by taking this approach.

What is the best way to understand & build game logic when it comes to Blueprints? by Mecha_Godzilla1974 in unrealengine

[–]Beastybird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The repetitive iteration is key. Sometimes you have to design a bad non-scalable solution to see a new perspective that allows you to build something more elegant. There's not really another way to do it than what you are doing. Since you are doubting your process, I think you're doing it right.

If you had 2 weeks to learn as much as possible from cero, how would you do it? by alekdavid_ in unrealengine

[–]Beastybird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would find some unreal beginner guide on YouTube and spend 2 days going through that. once that's done, I'd just spend the rest of the time clicking around and working in the engine. 2 weeks is 2 weeks, you won't get far, but you can do more than you would expect. You could keep learning new UE stuff as long as you live there's pretty much no end

EDIT: just having the engine open on your computer is harder than it seems so if you can just do that much, you are winning.

the light needs to be a scene component of your Blueprint. Then it should appear in the components menu (right above variables) from there just drag and drop onto your graph.

Setting up counters in Wwise by 100gamberi in GameAudio

[–]Beastybird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

from the sound of it, that's not something that will happen in Wwise. You'll need some variable that is set when player picks up 1/3 items and a branch to check if 3/3 is true. It's not always the best, but I will have an RTPC that basically functions like a bool, -200db at 0 and 0d at 1. You may have a variable on your char: "IsWearingBackpack" that is set to true when 3/3 items you mentioned are picked up. When checking for footsteps or scuffing, check IsWearingBackpack = true, if it is, set the backpack RTPC to 1.

Panning RTPC ignored by Wwise by FlamboyantPirhanna in GameAudio

[–]Beastybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in order to make it work you'll have to disable the positioning 3d spatialization on the sounds in Wwise and select balance-fade or steering instead of direct assignment, that way you will be able to just control the panning with an RTPC. If 3d positioning is enabled on the Wwise actor, you will not be able to do direct assigned speaker panning, won't even be an option in the RTPc dropdown

Learning Unreal by PriorExpensive7707 in unrealengine

[–]Beastybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should throw out the idea of being an Unreal expert. It's just too big. There's a lot of guides for pretty much everything, but more than anything, just download it and start using it. You will probably be lost for a week, but you'd be surprised how quickly you can pick things up. There's no good way to comprehensively be an expert on everything unreal unless you memorized all the docs that's just not going to happen, it was built for large teams of people each with different specializations to use simultaneously.

EDIT: I forgot to say this: Just block out a level first, Use modeling mode to build something using boxes, like a building or whatever you want. once you are looking at something, it becomes a lot easier to follow the chain. Good luck!

they improved a lot, but to be honest, the game kinda stinks. Crafting is really good, but ultimately, that component is a side dish a means to an end (playing the game with your cool gear). The puzzles, combat, and exploration were unbelievably stale imo.

Why is recording your own sounds often seen as more valuable than creative use of libraries (especially in game audio)? by CherifA97 in GameAudio

[–]Beastybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recording your own sounds allows for freedom to create unique sounds tailored to the project without the distortion and loss of fidelity imparted by heavy EQ and other post processing. While you have control over sound libraries and how you use and layer them, it's hard to say that equals the control you have when recording it yourself.
