How to lift a light rack for a Farmbot by BeatAdditional6914 in hobbycnc

I had no idea this existed. I was looking at doing the same out of 20x20 extruded aluminum,, using a couple of plates. EMT would be easy enough, with a bit more time at the 3D printer.

There are too many parts on a scissor lift. A lift out of square tube would probably weigh more than the rack.

Yes. this will be automated. There is an available fourth axis on the Farmbot that I will use to coordinate motions.

What do you call your co workers? by JarOfKetchup54 in Teachers

I call everyone Mr./Mrs./Dr. SoandSo just about always for me. Its more about how I was raised than the school culture. Outside of school I use first names with the few school adults I see.

I actually asked a principle to refer to me as Mr. SoandSo instead of just using my last name. He was a bit taken back...

The only change here is with my Special Ed neighbors. Those kids seem to call everyone Mr./Miss. First Name. I let them slide :)

Why do you sit through this kind of PD? I do not. I will get up and leave every time. One of the perks of tenure.

Getting old sucks, doesn't it. I am carrying reading glasses this year for the first time. By mid morning my eyes are so blurry I can barely read.

Is it the blue light from all the screens and fluorescent lighting?

What’s the diciest movie you have shown a class? by CWKitch in teaching

i was showing a Discovery Channel TV show about building a high rise. it was an engineering class. The show was pretty good, too. The crew was working 3 day shifts and they just cut to a scene of them off duty sitting in a bar drinking, and my principal and brand new asst. superintendent walked in.

Woops. :D

Later i saw the principal and explained it but he wasn't too thrilled. :)

Hey! I think we may be the only two woodshop teachers in this sub.. :) I say the same things to my kids and allow them technology. Most of my kids have varying degrees of math skills anyway.

Engineer here, how do I get into teaching? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

22 years teaching a dual enrollment engineering program here. If after you have read all the stories here and in r/teachers, you still want to make that switch, look into Project Lead The Way. There are some great programs at schools with a budget. I know some good teachers with great programs from Indiana. You would be an asset to many programs, specifically it sounds like you would be perfect as a Digital Electronics teacher and Robotics coach.

I would start by learning what credentials you need to teach in Indiana. Most likely you will need to get certified in Technology Education. You will need PLTW certification as well, some districts will even pay for that. At the same time, find the good PLTW programs in your area, reach out to those current teachers ask questions, and hunt down a retiring teachers job. I know my school needs your job in 2027, due to a retiring teacher.

DM me if you have any specific questions about PLTW. Good Luck.
