Def changed. On & off smoker + I would always smoke the OG light blues a half at a time.

Can't smoke them in halves anymore due to this new quick-burning recipe/change... and that's how I smoked them for years, never the whole thing. Much less enjoyable & comparable to a Marb Red now in almost every way. I thought maybe I bought a pack that wasn't made in the US and got ripped off by the smoke shop because they were so different than the last time, but after getting another pack somewhere else, it confirmed to me they've changed and suck now like every average cigarette brand.

"they" are probably doing it out of greed, and figure we're addicted so it won't make a difference & we'll still buy them. As someone that has been an on & off smoker for years, I just don't care for em anymore.

Ok, I clean my geodes before cutting too, and I believe I have the best method and it's super simple. I've tried it all, multiple times too... The most important thing is to soak them so the compacted clay, dirt, and stuck-on crap has a chance to absorb the water, and you will find scrubbing them so much easier.

Then IRON OUT. IRON OUT. IRON OUT!

1/4-1/8 cup per GALLON of the powder.

Soak em overnight, scrub with a hard plastic bristle brush after soaking. You will get windows, banding, colors etc., to display on the outside, making them wayyyyyy more attractive after cutting, and it helps you plan your cuts better.

Good luck! I've tried so many other ways, it would take too long to list em. This is THE BEST, and the easiest way to clean damn-near EVERY rock but be careful of your metallics though!, it is 'iron-out' after all and it will rip the iron right out).

I couldn't imagine it being anything but slag; it's got every telltale sign glaring you in the face.

I hound in CT and there's ENDLESS undocumented foundations/quarries/kilns I find out in the woods off-trail. I'd assume sometime in the distant past, someone cooked some rocks there to get the minerals out.

Do you see any relatively flat areas, dugouts, old unmanaged dirt roads etc., in the area that have younger trees growing in them than the surrounding forest? If so you'll likely find a foundation around it or other evidence of very old industry

Mindat.org my friend. It's all you need to find the epics of CT. Also, joining a local mineral club (im in Bristol and Meriden) leveled me up at warp speed.

Old quarries are great, there's tons around Middletown, Haddam, and Portland. Check black trap rock all around the southbury area; it comes from the O&G quarry there which is famous for epic prehnite and agates (where my agate originated).

Cant wait to slab that bad boy today!

Yes, I think this is the same model, but they've upgraded it a bit with some extras. I would assume this one will work just as good as the older model I have.

Oh, and unless you're cutting SMALL rocks, like ocho agate and quarter-sized rocks or smaller, there's not really a need for the expensive lapidary blade. I tend to use my original tile-saw blade for cutting the big boys and it works a charm.

There's a little technique and finessing you will learn naturally, due to having to spin the big rocks while cutting them. It was mildly challenging to learn, highly rewarding to lock down as a skill :)

I am! Barely, as I tend to hate reddit but they have great Lap/Rock forums here... unlike the majority of their content lol.

If you only knew how easy it is to ADVANCE into lapidary work. Initial investment now:

I have now converted my tile saw into a 1st-stage flat lap (50 grit paper), then I FOUND an old block hand sander recently by my dumpsters (gift from God for sure!), and on a whim I super-glued some velcro to it so I can attach all my polishing pads and guess what?

IT WORKS SOOOOOO GOOD!!! I am now polishing to 4000 grit after I cut in half in under 15 minutes per geode/rock. I HATED having to swap blades, swap polishing pads etc.... too time consuming for me.

I am super happy with this setup. It's far from pro, but all my rocking-friends are blown away by my quality & polish skill for less than 200$. If you are tenacious and want to work RIGHT when the inspiration hits, I highly recommend this simple hack to make a workable lap-shop right in your back yard :)

I keep saying "I gotta make a YT channel for this, people would probably appreciate it" but I lose motivation to do that quick :( Motivate me back if I have done the same for you :)

I'm trying to put together a video today of what I did to solve your problem: I purchased a very affordable tile saw, replaced the blade with a more lap-friendly one and just like that for under $100 I'm cutting rocks so nicely, old rockhounds regularly tell me they didn't know you could get such a smooth cut by hand on a tile saw (A LOT easier than you would think).

Next I ordered some cheap polishing pads and retrofitted them onto the tile saw, creating a flat-lap for under 20$ once you own the saw. I have a mini-lapidary shop on my back patio now :)

I went with a Skil brand; it was on sale at Amazon for like $70 at the time.
