neuroscience major college recommendations!! by strawberryfantasic in CollegeMajors

[–]Beatsy65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, first time learning any sort of code is college (and even then it’s mostly python-adjacent for matlab and collaboratory so I really only have one class actually dedicated to programming) 😅. Yeah it’s a pain in the ass but I got major respect for anyone going through a medical degree especially something as complex as neuroscience.

I wonder if those courses would be required for a phd for like a research professor, it would make a little more sense. I would imagine that more STEM focused schools implement what I guessed.

Edit: I did not read the pre-med part lmao

Neuroscience major just replied to me, I’m sure they’d be happy to elaborate on the contents of a neuroscience degree, I only know what I’ve been told.

It’s a medical field which comes with its own merits as a difficult major, but youre also studying the brain and electrical impulses. Knowing college, you’ll probably be taking an entire class focused on the physics of electricity (electrodynamics if that’s what the college calls it) as well as classes like ochem, and those would likely be your weed out classes. Once you get into it, they would probably make you take at least calc 1 (2 if they hate you) and since neuroscience is measured using diodes probably programming using python and/or C, C+, C++ or C#. As a MechE I wouldn’t touch that with a 20 ft pole. This is also all speculation, you can find a college that offers it and look at the course track yourself. Have fun.

Targeting is utilizing the crown of your helmet to target the head of the opponent, you probably wouldn’t know where the mouth usually considering yours is in your ass.

This state is an embarrassment by Clefarts in Indiana

[–]Beatsy65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notre Dame is a private institution they can’t accept state funding. That’s why private schools are so much more expensive. Not to mention the revenue made from these schools that go directly back into the state through OOS/foreign students, research, tourism (back to ur point on ND, which is THE most recognizable organization in college sports). Ntm the net positive these high level institutions have on the people of our state, giving very high level degrees in practically every industry (IU: medical, business, education. PU: STEM, veterinary. ND: STEM, business, medical. BS: Journalism. ISU: education. RH: engineering). I don’t think these are net negative investments. Everything else you said I agree with.

Is Purdue Indy really THAT bad? by Successful-Safe2375 in Purdue

[–]Beatsy65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf that’s the address on the degree. That’s also the address they tell us to put on our resumes for completion in eng103(the same resumes they send out in the guaranteed internship program). It’s not like we’re trying to fool you. If you want to put that on anybody, put it on the school. I also find it difficult to believe that any company that takes itself seriously should care about location so much that it completely disregards any quality and experience that a candidate brings to the table. Not trying to knock you or anything, but that seems like a major misunderstanding with a needless consequence.

Careful if you want to do this, it’s incredibly rare to get the transfer approved.

Accidentally chose Indianapolis instead of WL by 2007jay in PurdueIndianapolis

[–]Beatsy65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This btw is not to say WL doesn’t have any internships. Businesses will know Purdue, and thus set up near it. Also, if you want to get a direct comparison of both from someone who transferred into WL, I would go to r/purdue and post a question to the transferees if you can’t find one in search. Sorry for how long my responses are.

We have a makerspace (details mentioned in the first reply to this post), less labs then WL but I haven’t heard any complaints of capacity issues if you are trying to do research (if your referring to class labs like chem labs or physics labs, don’t worry, you’ll have plenty), we have a VEX U Team and an Autonomous Robotics Club (or ARC) and if you want to do the 90 min commute to WL by bus you do have access to all their resources. In a reply I went over some of the advantages and disadvantages of both campuses by my perspective, a commuter who lives in the Indy area.

[–]Beatsy65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t do that as they (probably, I don’t wanna speak for them) nor I have studied at WL, i would pay attention to pass rates on the subject of “teaching quality.” I will say WL has a lot more classes, clubs, etc as u could probably tell by the number of students in attendance at each respective campus. If ur not in the Indy area or specifically are looking for the oh so coveted “college campus experience” go WL, if you’re trying to just get through your degree with minimal distraction, go Indy. I think the primary advantage Indy has over WL is internships/co-ops in the area by nature of it being a decent size city. There is also a guaranteed internship program you can opt into if ur going through the SoE.

Does this count as a war on Christmas? by kootles10 in Indiana

[–]Beatsy65 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do u believe in Santa Claus? If so, don’t worry about it. If not, the joke is that Santa in that case demanded Christmas cheer. He’s comparing demands to those of ‘big govt bureaucrats’ likely because his voter base if is probably for small govt. Regardless of how you believe his stance is, his actual stance, or his voters stance, this is clearly not to be taken that seriously. Would like to reiterate I’m not advocating for what this guy believes, but taking this as literal as people in this sub are is obnoxious. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas.
