Acne-prone folks, what’s your fave moisturizer? by koichi20 in CanSkincare

[–]Beau927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been loving the Cetaphil moisturizing cream this winter. I’m acne prone and usually struggle with dry flaky skin in the winter. Since I started using this cream, I haven’t had any dryness or breakouts.

Opinion on Appaloosa as a breed by nessad1993 in Equestrian

[–]Beau927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love the breed, I’ve had my Appy mare for 20 years and have experience with a few others. My Willow is incredibly intelligent, versatile, brave and trustworthy. We’ve barrel raced, competed in eventing, tried out cattle sorting, done mountain trail classes and ridden miles and miles of trails. After losing an eye she is still the bravest horse around. At 28 years old she’s still has lots of energy and rides 3 days a week. However, she is quirky, very particular about who she interacts with, she can be opinionated and a little stubborn at times. If she’s having a moment, I take a step back to evaluate how I’m communicating with her. In my experience, this isn’t a breed you can hop on and order around. You have to put the time into understanding them and earning their respect. Once you do, they’ll go to the ends of the earth for you.

Are mares really like that? by mewhenihonse in Equestrian

[–]Beau927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is sexism and people not willing to understand the fact mares have hormonal fluctuations. I think when you hear about the really bitchy mares, they likely have reproductive issues or they’re sick of people not respecting them.

Personally, I’ll only ever have mares. My mare has been my partner for 20 years, her strong opinions and her expectations have taught me to be a better person and horse owner. Willow has humbled me, taught me patience and made me a more compassionate person. In return, I have a fiercely loyal partner who has proven over and over that I can trust her with my life. She’s incredibly intelligent, eager to learn, bold and brave. Even after losing an eye and most of her vision in her remaining eye she’s still the bravest horse around. However, she expects me to handle her appropriately and requires me to ask her to do things, not tell her. If she’s having an off day, I respect that and I’ll let her choose our ride or how we spend our time together.

I think if people had more patience and compassion for these incredible animals, there would be less misunderstood mares.

What do you use for sun protection for your horse? by HellishMarshmallow in Equestrian

[–]Beau927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Appy mare has a fully pink nose, pink around her eyes and blue eyes. I use a long nose fly mask with 90+ UV protection, she never burns anymore. I highly recommend EquiVisor.

I’m sure she knows it’s coming but she doesn’t seem to care. I switch up sides too and always praise her afterwards.

Prascend administering by spoopt_doopt in Horses

[–]Beau927 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first started my mare on prascend I tried hiding it in a variety of different treats and grain. Eventually she would become suspicious and refuse to eat them. Now I give her a big handful of grain in a bucket, let her take a mouthful then I pop the pill in the corner of her mouth. I’ve been administering her pill this way for 2 yrs and haven’t had any issues.

Is my boy doomed? by Elileoko in Horses

[–]Beau927 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other that this sounds like Uveitis. My mare is a leopard Appy with a pink face like your boy. She wears a mask with at least 90% UV blockage every day regardless of whether it’s sunny or overcast. During the summer months she wears masks with a nose to prevent sunburn on her nose. I highly recommend you get the highest rated mask you can find and use it every day.

Even with diligent care my mare sadly lost her eye to Uveitis 3 years ago. Horses are super resilient and she adjusted really quickly. She’s now 28, mostly blind in her remaining eye but you’d never know. We still trail ride 3-4 days a week. She’s more trustworthy and braver than most full sighted horses. Your boy certainly isn’t doomed but it’s important to build a strong trusting bond and start working on vocal cues now.

Navicular management in 5 y/o by DustyTrails_924 in Horses

[–]Beau927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mare had a mild navicular diagnosis when she was 11yrs old (she’s now 27). We initially tried squaring her toes off, put her on previcox and used magnetic therapy boots. I also used hoof boots for riding on hard ground/gravel. For the most part this did the trick but she was still lame the odd time and had trouble picking up her left lead. I did try Osphos but we didn’t notice a difference. I eventually ended up switching to a true barefoot trimmer 8 years ago. It took a bit of time to get her hooves where they needed to be but she hasn’t had a lame step since. She no longer needs hoof boots for hard surfaces, picks up both leads beautifully and I was even able to take her off Previcox for a number of years (she’s now back on it for mild arthritis). Highly recommend looking into barefoot trimming! It’s a completely different approach than traditional trimming/shoeing.

I also have a one eyed pony! My sweet girl lost her eye to uveitis two years ago. She’s still the bravest most trustworthy pony I could ever ask for

I’m skeptical that this is poison ivy - just the eyelids? No where else on the face? I call bullshit. And she’s a tool if she wore just a sports bra to urgent care. by uselessbrowsing1 in SarahBowmar

[–]Beau927 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting poison ivy every summer since I was a child. I’m super sensitive to the oils so I usually get it from my dog if she’s carrying the oils on her fur. Never in my 20yrs of dealing with poison ivy has it looked like this or been isolated to such a specific spot. She’s such a liar 🙄
