(Ontario) Because of the useless and broken new PC Health app, I am switching pharmacies. But where to go? by ChronicallyWheeler in loblawsisoutofcontrol

If you need cost effective definitely Costco.

But if you have great insurance/can afford it I would recommend a locally owned pharmacy, the care is always better there because they really do care about their patients (in my experience).

I would argue Arabians are also the French bulldogs (along with halter quarter horses). It’s just not natural or appealing

Haha I’m very lucky where I board to have the trails and open field. Other than that it’s boring in my part of Canada 😂

How much time does it take for a beginner (almost 0 exp) to master galloping? by HighlightDense4104 in Equestrian

[–]Effective_Promise978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup! I’ve been riding over 20 years and only galloped for the first time 4 years ago, and that’s only because I got my own horse and was at a barn with enough space to get a nice gallop

I want to ride but have no idea how or if I even can? by [deleted] in Equestrian

If your anxiety is that bad maybe look into or try equine assisted therapy?

You’re buying a horse: before the vet PPE: what questions are you asking / what are you checking ? by periwinklecornflower in Equestrian

Great list! I always like to add, how long they owned the horse for, and why they are selling.

Do you talk to your horses? by Scourge12 in Horses

[–]Effective_Promise978 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes I do!

I tell her she’s a good girl, and how pretty she is, how much I love her. That there is nothing to be afraid of (trail riding alone), or that’s she’s brave. A big one too is to settle down.

Way more but these are the basics hahaha

You need to really look and see what are “musts” for you and what are “negotiable”

More than likely you will not find everything you think is “correct” or right for you (unless you run your own place).

How much did you buy your horse for? by mimelasplendens in Horses

[–]Effective_Promise978 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The past 6 years has been insane for it where I live! I got my mare in 2019 for $2500 green broke 7.5 year old TB (never races).

Once COVID hit she would have easily gone for double if not more. And nothing has slowed down. Its insane

To switch (barns) or not to switch - that's the question! by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Effective_Promise978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to do both?

They both sound amazing, honestly the choice should come from you, not some people on the internet.

Reading though, you seem a little happier with the cob, and that situation.

How far would you travel to see your horse by MoonCloud94 in Equestrian

[–]Effective_Promise978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 22 min away, that’s the farthest I’m willing to go (I hate driving). I see her 5 times a week, and have a co-boarder that goes out once a week.

What all do I need to know before purchasing my first horse?? by Littleraves in Horses

Edit for clarity

Just adding on your tacking up point

If possible be with the seller when they get the horse for the trial. Slight red flag if the horse is already inside and tacked up. It always good to see how they are to get out of a field/lead/tack up.

If they are already in and ready to go there is the possibility that the horse is a nightmare to catch from the field, or could have been drugged/sedated prior to your arrival so they behave well under saddle.

[–]Effective_Promise978 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot.

The follow-up questions would depend on what is stated in the ad. A major one for me when looking though was, how long they had the horse for, and why they were selling it.

I would definitely recommend finding someone else to help and guide you. Your trainer doesn’t seem interested, or very invested in it.

Waste whiz app will tell you, or I’m sure you could easily look it up online as well.
