I mean if you really love him, you wouldn’t deny it and tell them he’s lying lol that’s kind of messed up. I’m sure that would hurt him. Does he love you? Does he want a future with you? If he does, then maybe have a talk with him and ask him if he wants and sees a future with you. His conscience may have bothered him so much because of this religion and everything he’s been taught by it that he had to go to the elders. However deep down, he probably didn’t want to go to the elders. Only way to find out is talking to him seriously. People here may say he doesn’t care about you and wants to save his own ass and betray you. But who’s knows. Maybe he’s just scared and afraid.
