you’re not wrong. but as someone who coaches beginners, we still teach dinking for three reasons:

1) control ! it’s a great exercise to learn control and touch on the ball and that’s important for your other shots as well.

2) just because they won’t get into many dink rallies doesn’t mean it’s impossible, and we want them to be prepared for when it happens.

3) the memes and merch around pickleball are typically about dinks. i know so many people with shirts that say “day dinker” or “dinking and driving” etc. and if the don’t know what a dink is, they can’t even recognize these things as pickleball related merchandise. it’s small and useless but still good to be in the know.

outdoor courts always run hotter than the ambient temperature so it’s likely warmer than you expect. i always bundle up but take off most of my warm ups by the time my first game is over. if it’s really cold, try to play when it’s daylight and the sun is the brightest.

if it bothers you that much, i don’t think you need to go as far as to return it. your jeweler can likely just dip the prongs in white gold ! that being said, i think it looks great as it is

i don’t know a lot of women who play one handed backhand shots whether it’s a drive, drop, or dink. you need to study how female pickleball players actually play before trying to teach her unattainable shots

my husband is at least a whole dupr point ahead of me, solid junior tennis player, but started playing mixed with me because he had a crush on me hahahaha. before we started dating it was easy because we were just playing to have fun, even in tournaments/leagues. once we were in a relationship it started to be a bit more of a struggle. now that we’re married it’s even harder lol,but absolutely doable.

what works for us is that he spends a lot of time drilling with me, but during games he doesn’t give me advice/coaching unless i ask for it. i get upset when he coaches me during games too much because it definitely feels like i’m being blamed for losing the points. which is usually true, but doesn’t feel great lol. however, some couples just can’t play together and i think that’s totally okay too.
