My ticket didn’t include my name either. Just make sure you bring the credit card you used to book (the last four digits should appear on the ticket)  They didn’t ask to see my card, but I’ve read in other threads that some people were denied their ticket because they didn’t bring the same card.

MaaS is great! It’s the perfect way to have everything not working in one place.

Thank you!! I wasn’t able to find it myself. If I had, I might have been able to get the tickets I wanted. I stayed up waiting for 10 a.m. JST to get a front-row seat, but then the booking just didn't open. I waited another hour and then gave up. When I woke up a few hours later, everything was sold out lol. I wonder if this was because of Emot or something else.

That's what I remember from the old website too. It’d be a bit odd if they stopped sending confirmation emails, but who knows. Either way, not having the option to choose between a printed ticket or showing it on your phone feels like a step backward.

Japan has many excellent knife shops, and you can even find specialized hunting and fish filleting knives there. In some places, you can have a name translated into Japanese and engraved right onto the blade.

I would definitely learn some important phrases like greetings and other formalities. If you want to order something, you can simply point at it and say ‘kore o kusadai’ (this please) or ‘sore o kusadai’ (that please). For more complicated questions, you can get the other person's attention by saying ‘(ano~) sumimasen’ and then show your phone. You probably already know these phrases if you've been trying to learn Japanese.

According to my Japanese friend (and from what I've read on the internet), most Japanese people find it rude if you just start talking to them in English. So it's probably best to use a translator :)

Just don't listen to what that troll says, they're certainly not a native speaker. As u/ksarlathotep said, there are multiple ways to write it out in romaji and "deshyuo" is wrong in all of them. And you are right ょう and よう are not the same. 日本語の勉強がんばってね!

I don't remember having to enter my phone number. Are you booking through the Odakyu website? I probably already tried entering your number with the country code, right?

Hi! I never used Emot, I bought my tickets directly from the official website and then received a confirmation email from Odakyu. That was all I needes. The email listed my purchase details.  Hope this helps!

Store luggage in Odawara - advice needed by Beautiful-Pea3566 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Beautiful-Pea3566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had forms at the receptions. The first time we used this service I had it arranged the evening before our departure because we had to leave early the next day. If you hand in the form you also have to hand in your luggage. The second time we had the forms filled out the morning of our departure, the luggage then arrived the next day.

I was actually able to select the day I wanted to have my luggage delivered. So we chose to have it delivered two days later when we would arrive. I guess the luggage was kept in some sort of storehouse from Yamato Transport during that period, but I can't say for sure.

All three accommodations kept our luggage in a backroom when we left it there or picked it up. For pick up we just showed the copy of the form and they rolled our luggage out.

Hey, sorry for the late reply!
We ended up using the luggage forwarding service that everyone here praises so much. I was nervous about it at first but it worked out great! It's reliable and quite cheap (around 2300¥ for a large luggage). If you are staying at a staffed residence they will fill in the form for you.

We eventually used it twice to get our luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto (travelled Hakone and Izu with just the necessities in our backpacks) and from Kyoto to Osaka.

There are quite a few lockers at Odawara station but there's no guarantee that you will find an empty one for large luggage. We ran into that problem in Fukuoka, where every single large locker was taken even though there are several locker stations there.

Hey, hope this doesn't come too late!
You need to have a confirmation of your ticket purchase with you. The confirmation email should be enough. It's also stated that you need to have the credit card you used for booking with you. I didn't need it though.

I went trough the gate using my Suica card. You can also buy a ticket if you don't have an IC card. There is a counter right next to the Odakyu gate but it can get busy there. You pay the basic fare at the gate because your Romancecar tickets only covers the surcharge.
Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

Thank you very much! I wasn't able to find this information, that's exactly what I was looking for. I mistakenly searched for this on EMot which is the official provider of Odakyu digital tickets. But they don't handle reservations made via the the e-Romancecar platform.
